Re: Get rid of windows and replace with LM14

Grub or more correctly Grub2 is the bootloader. It stands for GRand Unified Boot Loader. It has both cmd line interface as well as a menu interface. When you decide to make a persistant install of Linux, upon boot up, you will be presented with a menu entry listing the operating systems you have inst...

Is there a possibility of this same theme without the cowgirl? I mean she is sexy and all, I just dont care to have her right in front.

Glad you made the jump to Linux. I myself did too and eventually I am thinking of getting rid of Windows altogether. Welcome to Mint.

Ubuntu: Recent updates: unable to move cursor at logon

During the updates that recently were available and downloaded by myself, I moved to re-boot the computer as per the update request. Upon boot up, I was unable to move my cursor (unlike as it was prior to the updates and with other kernals) to the login window to place my login credentials. Am using...

Re: Re-assinging /dev/sda

HI Viking and eanfrid. Thanks for getting back to me. Now that you have informed me of the fact of the possibility that I could wack my system by doing such procedure and the fact that Linux will still recognize the /dev/sda# regardless of their numerical ordering, I do not think that I will endeavo...

Re-assinging /dev/sda

Hi. :) During the initial instal of my operating system (listed below) some time ago, I had to partition some parts of my hard-drive. Incidetally during that partition process there came about an inadvertant placement of the operating system I am working out of at the moment to /dev/sda11. The drive...

Re: Installing Windows 8 along with Mint and Ubunto

If you keep things on a separate partition, then you don't need to back up, of course. This I wasn't aware of since you had not mentioned it earlier. Regardless. Be aware that if you install Windows 8 on your Ubuntu partition, Windows is going to overwrite GRUB and all you will be left with is the a...

Re: No sound in Linux 14 Nadia

You are certainly correct about the codecs not being the problem. I do agree with you there. But I did find something for you and I hope it works. Have a look at this link: http://www.linuxandlife.com/2012/05/no-sound-in-linux-mint-13-maya.html Even though it's maya, it might still have functionalit...

Re: Installing Windows 8 along with Mint and Ubunto

This is just an alternate idea to what AlbertP has posted. His idea is essentially very good. :) *First, it does not surprise me that schools dont support linux. It seems that as long as Windows is around, things should be just fine. I know, it's sad, isn't it? Secondly, back up Nadia to an external...

Re: No sound in Linux 14 Nadia

I know that this sounds silly but did you manually turn volume 'up' on your speakers? Also, it could be (perhaps chances are?) that Nadia just does not recognize the built in audio software that came installed with your computer. If that is the case then I would not know the reason for that to be. B...

Re: Wireless tab missing on Mint Cinnamon

I went to the offline install of broadcom and I think I may have gotten to a point where, had I wireless, I would have been able to install wireless b43 broadcom. However, one problem persists. Since I have no wireless, I cannot download the b43 fwcutter tool. I had to use Windows to download from h...

Re: Cinnamon Doesn't show Other?

I have had something like this before and the way I fixed it is by rebooting. At least it worked for me. Try it and see, though you should not have to reboot to see a menu item in the menu list but that is how it was for me.

Re: Meging partitions

what you could also do is to delete the sda3 partitoin. That one according to your picture has an ext4 file system on it. Both the sda3 along with the other unallocated partition should merge to become 1 single unallocated partition. Then, once the merged unallocated partition presents itself, you t...

Re: Security warning/notice

I can say one thing right now, zach. And that is that remote viewing by cameras can even by done by crackers/hackers who have this knowledge. It does not even have to be some legitamite remote viewer. It can also be a non-legitamate viewer who has the skills and knowlegde base to enable such tactics...

He is not paranoid at all. This is reality. The fact that cameras are viewed remotely does not infer that the remote viewer is an honest person. The point he is making is actually very valid.

Wireless missing on Mint Cinnamon 14

Hi. I've had a couple of problems lately and most of them pertain to not being able to get wireless working on Mint 14. Currently, I share my wireles with my landlord upstairs. I can get wireless just fine and working with no problem on my laptop but when it comes to the desktop wireless becomes a p...

Re: Booting from USB - Unable to mount any devices

Hi SealLion, Thanks for your response, Yup that worked. I also trawled the Ubuntu forums and found that fix, but looking at the time your response was posted you got there about 10 mins before me. Thanks again. Just as a matter of interest I am still unsure why I can't log-in using any accounts tha...
