Re: Accidentally installed Mint 17.1 over my windows Hdd

You can download from Microsoft a legal copy of Win10 for installation. I think it will auto-activate if your previous Win10 install was UEFI - which is the default of OEM Win10 installs.

Re: bulk rename with nemo

I know you are looking for a GUI solution, but there's a simple terminal solution: Open a terminal window Change to the folder hosting the files with a command of the form: cd /path/to/folder I believe the command would be rename 's/\.TTF$/.ttf/' *.TTF Inspect the file names in the file manager of y...

If the instructions on Pjotr's site don't do the trick, the "How To" I've written (see my signature) will work for every HP supported printer.

Re: Garmin devices using open street maps

Hijacking my own thread. Garmin Express and VirtualBox. Doesn't find the Nuvi attached. Any other files to be added or configuration settings required for that to happen? I'm pretty sure you have to have the Oracle VB Extension Pack installed to get access to usb devices. And your account has to be...

Re: increasing swap in lm 19

Yep - you need more swap. In LM 19, as has already been stated, you can implement swap as either a partition or a file. The file implementation is much easier - it's done by default for you. But the 2GB default is, obviously, too small for your use. This page seems (i.e., I've not tested it) to have...

Re: How to get Keepass2 to auto-type ID and passwords

In both keepassx and keepassxc, one can right-click on the entry and, using the context (pop-up) menu copy the username, paste that into the form, then repeat for the password (a different selection on the context menu). BTW - you may want to look at keepassxc. The database format is compatible with...

Re: Partitioning and Swap

It is a good idea to have /home in its own partition Agreed, not only does it make updates or re-installs simpler, if on a separate drive it provides additional security against failure . Bolded text is wrong. Regardless of where /home is hosted, if the drive fails, it fails. Just because it's on a...

Re: increasing swap in lm 19

One's need for swap in a function of a couple of things, one of which is what one is doing with the computer. So, providing an idea of what you were doing when the computer freezes up on you would go a long way in helping to figure out the next step. Also, a characterization (description) of what yo...

Update Manager maintains a history of the software packages, which it updated, including the timestamps, when it did so.

Re: Wiping out hard drive

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but I do have an alternative idea that you might want to consider. First, the dd command will take sometime; how much depends on a number of factors, but I'm pretty sure it'll be more than just a couple of minutes. An alternative, if you're not concerne...

I would give this thread by karlchen --> Upgrade from Mint 17.1 to Mint 19 in-place (experiment)

as part of your "should I upgrade" decision process.

Re: Xsane and scanning multiple pages

There's the option of creating a multi-page project. Don't have the application in front of me, I don't remember how the button is labeled.

It works by creating a project, you scan all your documents, and when you tell it to, it combines all the scans into a single file.

Re: What is a good wireless Pci-e Wifi Card working with LM19?

I have been using the ASUS PCE-AC55BT B1

According the the WikiDevi page for this device, it used the Intel PMB5502 chipset.

On my home network, it provides up and down speeds almost as fast (maybe a 10% difference) as my hard-wired desktop.

Trying to install Mint Linux from Live Mint 19.0 Tara (Cinnamon) onto another USB key with an Alienware R2 (2016) (Core I7, 16 GB Ram. 512 SSD with a 1 TB hard drive) that has a functioning Windows 10 Pro. Re: Hard Drive capacity

The above, while being correct, is not the whole story. At least one other component comes into play - the disk partition type (is that the right term?). If you are using the old BIOS MBR, the max drive size supported is ~2.2TB (if using traditional 512B sectors) or 16TB (if using 4K native sectors)...

Color profiles I use were generated using an open-source hardware product called ColorHUG that I purchased a number of years ago. To generate a useful monitor profile, fi...
