Re: installing g++

g++-5 may not be available through Synaptic in all Mint versions. Here's an alternate method: sudo apt-get install build-essential sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install g++-5 If necessary, set link to point to g++-5: sudo ln -s -i /usr/bin/gcc-5...

Re: Non Paypal donations!

Yo kc!di I had seen the post by xenopeek but I wuz sort of hoping that there had been enough (pleasant) pressure to get another option for payment. I could buy stuff Pierre but I am a non-material type so that is not really a viable option long-term. Bye for now. Ooops missed a couple of posts whil...

Re: Theme colour tab disappeared in 18.3

What binaries? . I only had a quick look and was fooled by the binary icon engrampa showed me for scss files. The gtk-3.0 folder however contains a binary called gtk.gresource which may well be the compiled version of the same named xml, but I do not know how to check that. Themes have config (text...

Yes thank you, I did gksudo /opt/firefox/firefox and it updated. Do I have to start FF as root every time I want to update?

Packages included in this update: libnemo-extension1

Does that mean it's OK to install? Won't trash Caja?

Re: How to download an older version of Firefox?

OK I downloaded Firefox ESR (firefox-52.5.0esr.tar.bz2) and extracted it in /usr/local/sbin I guess that'd work...I probably should've mentioned putting it under /opt/firefox .... Command firefox should launch it since it has precedence in $PATH but it doesn't, but launcher works and FF uses curren...

I am sorry but I do not like themes with binaries in it. I just want the same tooltip colour (of choice) everywhere like I used to have with gtk2.

What binaries?

Re: Theme colour tab disappeared in 18.3

... You will have to tweak / edit your theme's gtk.css manually... Yeah, I tried that in the gtkrc file of my theme and it works in some applications but not in e.g. the taskbar, caja.. I guess thats due to the theme having only a gtk2 css. I dont get it why the move to gtk3 is so important when it...

Re: How to disable touchpad when plugging in cable mouse

All you have to do is create 2 files and reboot. Use your text editor, in this case pluma: Create file 1, rules file: gksudo pluma /lib/udev/rules.d/72-touchpad.rules copy/paste the code exactly as per my post above, except in line 7 replace "$USER" with your actual user name, and save. Create file ...

Follow my post here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2120763&p=12562008#post12562008 with 2 changes: (1) Replace $USER with your actual user name. (2) Replace /etc/udev/rules.d/ with /lib/udev/rules.d/ , required for new versions of Mint/Ubuntu reboot or run sudo /sbin/udevadm trigger

No wi-fi networks listed after resume

Network manager in panel does not list the available wi-fi networks after suspend/resume. Wi-fi reconnects OK though. If I log out & back in, the list of networks re-appears in the context menu.

This is for a LM18.3 machine and problem started after update from LM 18.2 to 18.3.

Re: AMD video driver for LM 18.3

For anybody searching, Google Earth 7.3 is NOT compatible with the X.org nouveau graphics driver. In the absence of an AMD proprietary driver you'll have to install an older Google earth version 7.1.8 (google-earth-pro-stable_7.1.8.3036-r0_amd64.deb) available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0...

What's so special about /opt ? It's not even in the PATH. http://www.tldp.org/LDP/Linux-Filesystem-Hierarchy/html/opt.html /opt This directory is reserved for all the software and add-on packages that are not part of the default installation. OK, I did a variation on my procedure (above https://for...
