Re: How to download an older version of Firefox?

I put it in /usr/local/sbin thinking that firefox command will find it there first and simply ignore FF57 in /usr/sbin. I suppose it will find it if I uninstall FF57. Well, the executable will be in /usr/local/sbin/firefox/firefox - which isn't in your path. Plus sbin is supposed to be "system-bin"...

Re: How to download an older version of Firefox?

OK I downloaded Firefox ESR (firefox-52.5.0esr.tar.bz2) and extracted it in /usr/local/sbin I guess that'd work...I probably should've mentioned putting it under /opt/firefox .... Command firefox should launch it since it has precedence in $PATH but it doesn't, but launcher works and FF uses curren...

Re: How to download an older version of Firefox?

I uninstall FF57 in Software Manager first? ESR is not a DEB, how do I install it and will it continue to auto-update? You can "install" any version of firefox from : https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ You'll get a .tar.bz file that you expand into some directory, then make a link to the...

Re: AMD video driver for LM 18.3

Changes were made with AMD drivers and the proprietary fglx driver is no longer available. There's some discussion about it at https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=256053&hilit=amdgpu#p1381477 Your setup looks fine from the inxi and unity_support_test results. Thank you, GLX support lo...

OS HD keeps parking every few seconds

OS HD keeps parking & restarting every few seconds, click-click-click.

It works fine in LM 17.3 and only does this in 18.3, the disk is a 500 GB Hitachi HTS547550A9E384 (JE3OA50A)

Re: How to download an older version of Firefox?

Firefox 56 is not a valid option; it contains more than a dozen partially very critical security holes, which e. g. allow an attacker to execute arbitrary program code. Take the current version for Firefox ESR. I uninstall FF57 in Software Manager first? ESR is not a DEB, how do I install it and wi...

How to download an older version of Firefox?

I just installed LM 18.3 on a friend's pc and she doesn't like Firefox 57. I want to download the previous version but can't find it in the repositories. The file should be something like: firefox_56.0+linuxmint1+sylvia_amd64.deb

AMD video driver for LM 18.3

I just installed LM 18.3 and Driver Manager does not show a proprietary driver for AMD video. Is this built into the kernel? $ inxi -G Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Trinity [Radeon HD 7640G] Display Server: X.Org 1.18.4 drivers: ati, radeon (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) Resolution: 1366x7...

Re: How does one recover from having used Grub Customizer?

I did approximately what you suggested, Pjotr. But I still had some GC stuff in /boot/grub, and something else, I think. So, I looked around and decided what else I needed to do, did it and rebooted. Oops! It doesn't show the grub menu anymore, just boots straight to Mint using the 3.13 kernel. And...

Re: INTEL announces vulnerabilities in Firmware

Good points, Faust. I went back and read the article again, and I'm feeling a bit better now! I wish Intel would abandon the notion that putting malware in their CPUs is a good idea. It's in the chipset, not the CPU. It's a separate MINIX mini-OS that works independently of Windows/Linux regardless...

Indeed, no stripes in LM 18.2

Re: Firefox 57 - Quantum

There's uMatrix in Chrome too, interesting. Does it block both scripts AND cookies? Yes, it blocks lots of stuff - but you have control. The defaults are fairly safe. See the attached screen shot of the uMatrix panel (below), note the column for cookies. I don't know about blocking all LSO's though...
