Re: Which Mint version for old netbook

I would recommend Mint 17 MATE or XFCE (when it comes out) and you will have to install it with live USB

My Mint 17 Cinnamon I didn't change much because I like the default look of Cinnamon (also, I am lazy). http://i350.removed/albums/q419/ninomrki/Screenshotfrom2014-06-04114215_zpsfd0826cb.png http://i350.removed/albums/q419/ninomrki/Screenshotfrom2014-06-04114127_zps42099734.png http://i350.removed/...

Re: Printer driver installation hangs

Right... so, I found the driver, downloaded it, installed it using GDebi and now what? I went back to System Settings, clicked on Add Printer, selected my printer and clicked on Local Driver when asked to select the driver. Nothing is happening. I got that circle thingy instead of the cursor going r...

Printer driver installation hangs (solved)

I installed Mint 17 Cinnamon on my notebook and I am having problems with installing a driver for my Epson Stylus DX 5050 printer via System Settings control center. The problem is that the installation hangs, sometimes half way trough the installation and sometimes even before I get asked for my pa...

Re:

? According to my knowledge apt-get dist-upgrade is the same as apt-get update except that it also installs new packages and removes obsolete ones. This has nothing to do with ugrading to a new version (like 16 to 17). At least not when it comes to Linux Mint. As far as I know Linux Mint does not a...

Re: Only 2182 packages?

Actually, I just remembered I have deleted the partition with Ubuntu and created a new one using GParted before installing Mint 17 on it. Still, not formating the partition while installing Mint might have something to do with the bug regardless of what was on it. Either way, thanks for the help, gu...

Re: Only 2182 packages?

Ok, it's that bug with repositories again... How did you install Mint? Did you choose the custom partitioning? If yes, did you check the "format" checkbox when choosing the partition for the installation? Custom partitioning on a previously formated partition. I didn't check "format What was in tha...

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!

No, just use the Update Manager. When updates come, install them. apt-get dist-upgrade is for when you wanna switch from (for example) Mint 16 to Mint 17

Only 2182 packages?

So, I installed Mint 17 Cinnamon and my Software Manager says there are only 2182 packages available. Needless to say, I am missing some software I need that I am used to from Mint 14 MATE (Audacious, Filezilla, etc.). Is that normal? Any chance there will be more packages added or can I add a repo ...

Re: Why use Linux??? (real newbie question)

I installed Mint successfully for dual boot with Vista, which I am fairly familiar with. I understand the security advantage of Linux and the fact there are less users, so there is less chance of viruses. but so far, I find it more difficult to do simple things like installing and uninstalling, con...
