Re: Stealth VM software (FREE??)

instead of download from that site I'd suggest to install the official one in the repository. sudo apt-get virtualbox-qt virtualbox-guest-addition-iso the second package is the guest addition iso which needed to get windows 3D acceleration and several VB feature. the other solution is using qemu or ...

Re: apt-get upgrade - config files

dpkg keep both files regardless which the option you took. if you prefer to take the maintainer version, you old config will be renamed as <filename>.conf.dpkg-old. if you prefer the old ones, the maintainer version will be saved as <filename>.conf.dpkg-new. if you want to revert your config file si...

Re: When and where to run script during boot

On /media/nas my NAS was supposed to be mounted but who.txt ended up on the local file system. Couldnt recognize anything in init.d as being the part were network fs is mounted. sounds like rc.local got executed too early. on systemd I can make a custom service and specifiy that it should executed ...

Re: Debian Jesse

CMIIW if you only count the base system, debian-fedora-opensuse-arch is using systemd while the rest of linux is still on sysvinit or something else. many distros is using systemd because they're derivative of these distro.

Re: When and where to run script during boot

you can either put it on /etc/init.d/ and register it via insserv or put it as an rc.local. The network mount is apparently not taking place during the SysV part and I cannot determine exactly what happens during systemd part. nadia is using upstart and I'm not too informed about 'how it work' but A...

Re: Cinnamon 2.2 on LMDE/SID

If you're tracking Debian Testing and you're determined to install 2.4, you can reach up into sid/unstable and give it a shot, but that may create breakages. when testing enter freeze period, sid is also frozen. it only accept an update which solve an RC bug or something really really really import...

if I'm not mistaken the deb file is only the installer. you need to run 'adobe air application installer' to run the app.

Re: After installation, PC says "Operating Ssytem not found"

fist thing first...what is the result of inxi - Fxz sudo parted -l based on your explanation it might be a problem from wrong grub installation or wrong grub configuration. it usually could be fixed by reinstalling grub. first of all, boot into lmde liveiso, open terminal, then sudo mount /dev/sdXY ...

Re: What version of Cinnamon will be in LMDE 2

the best possible scenario is that jessie will become stable around february. so let's hope the release date will be around that time so that you will got new shiny 2.4 on next lmde release :3

Re: What version of Cinnamon will be in LMDE 2

it depens on how long until jessie becomes stable. on the last official statement mint team said that LMDE2 won't get released until jessie becomes stable. when it got released we might already have 2.6 or newer.

Re: What are the differences between debian and main distro?

Debian Stable does automatically receive security updates, whereas Debian Testing does not. the manual is lil bit misleading. debian testing did automatically got security updates. according to this site it also have security teams http://testing-security.debian.net/. the differences are: 1. stable...

Re: samsung galaxy s5 not recognized by linux mint 17 xfce

Mint 17 is based on a relatively new version of Ubuntu that was released this year, Ubuntu 14.04 and it is likely up to Ubuntu to release updates for gvfs/libmtp9
yup...the problem is that, they won't. when an ubuntu got released the repo will be frozen and it will only get security updates.

Re: What are the differences between debian and main distro?

LMDE is certainly moving towards "stable" in the accepted Debian sense of the word - i.e. unchanging software that has already been largely debugged. no need to change software that already debugged only true if you apply the patch for that software. we need to remember that an update not always a ...

Re: LMDE root and swap encryption

the iso release date also means the last update packs on LMDE. it means, in general, until LMDE2 got released you won't get any security patch, bug fix, or any kind of updates. LMDE2 will be released when debian jessie becomes stable. it roughtly next spring or one year after it enter frozen period....

Re: samsung galaxy s5 not recognized by linux mint 17 xfce

in that case, nothing you can do about it. mint 17 is based on older version of ubuntu and won't get any update for gvfs and libmtp9. your samsung will probably never work until mint change the base version. Do I need special software to interface with samsung? like someone needs apples software to ...
