Re: Future use of LMDE as Squeeze (stable)

Thanks Jeffrey, but you said Debian Security which prompted me to post as it seemed a little odd. I get it, just comment out the Mint stuff.

Re: Future use of LMDE as Squeeze (stable)

Hi, I've been running LMDE pointing at the Squeeze repos for a while now, after becoming a bit concerned about the amount of potential breakages coming from Testing. I followed LifeInTheGrey's excellent tutorial here: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/497 It runs really well on my older m...

Re: fastest audio player - Pogo

Hi I reported an unusual message during boot - here it is: rpcbind: Cannot open '/var/run/rpcbind/rpcbind.xdr' file for reading, errno 2 (No such file or directory) It's a known Debian bug but it is not a problem, details here for those who are interested. http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-dis...

Re: HOWTO: Improve Font Rendering in LMDE

Thanks Ikey!

FF fonts were really mucky after the last upgrade but this fixed it. A few things disappeared but shutting down & booting up again solved that. Appearance of many things much improved. :D

@tjw Thanks mate, I didn't do anything like that, I actually used MU! (Tempted to go back to sudo && tho). It is actually working, I just noticed some new strange messages which I've searched for but can't find in the logs. Later. I have the broken fortune cookie! :( Same error msg as above...

Re: error mounting nfs share

I don't know if it will be helpful, but there is a great nfs howto here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=249889 Every now & again my nfs shares on a sheeva plug disappear & I've found that restarting things in the correct order is very important. This page is the only reference I ne...

Hi Folks, I don't post here much, but I read this forum a lot, & learn a great deal here. LMDE is working 100% on my old Toshiba Tecra. I'm dual booting with Mint 9, Main Edition & I see see improvements on a variety of fronts, not least speed. LMDE is now my main OS. I don't mind the lack o...

You might like to look at Ecosia: http://ecosia.org/ Why is Ecosia the greenest of all search engines? We are the greenest search engine for two reasons. Firstly, and most importantly, we donate our income to protect rainforests. Secondly, our servers run on green electricity. Operating a search eng...

Hi I'm in Mint 7,not 8, but have used something called winff found in the Synaptic package manager to convert video from one format to another: WinFF is a graphical user interface for FFmpeg. It will convert almost any video file that FFmpeg will convert. WinFF does multiple files in multiple format...
