Backup Linux Mint and Mac on the same Hard Drive

I have a computer with Linux Mint and a different computer (a macbook pro) running MacOS and would like to back them both up on the same external hard drive. For the Mac, I would like to use its built-in program Time Machine to do an encrypted backup. Can I use the same HD for both? If so, should I ...

Update Keepass?

I installed what is called "keepass2" from the software manager in linux mint. I am not sure that it is the same as anything here https://keepass.info/download.html as it looks like it is officially for windows and does not mention a "keepass2" for linux. However I also see some ...

[SOLVED] List of Applications

I am running out of space on my root directory and would like to get rid of applications I am not using or have not used in a while. I believe I have installed a lot of applications using the command line over the years (due to specific applications not being available in the Mint software manager, ...

Computer to sleep when inactive - terminal process?

I am running a backup in the terminal. Do I need to change the power settings in Mint for when the computer goes to sleep when its inactive? In other words will it recognize that there is a terminal process and not make the computer go to sleep?

Re: How much space is Timeshift supposed to take?

Additional info: My root is 22 GB and timeshift is 54G for 8 snapshots. It was ~27GB but I just deleted some flatpaks that were taking up a lot of space. t it depends on your root partition usage: if you installed tons of software and/or never removed old kernels I suppose it's possible. How can I t...

[SOLVED] Kernel Versions Questions

Screenshots attached. Right now I am running kernel 4.15.0-65. I see in Update Manager that there is a line 4.18, but all of them are reported as being "end of life". Presumably 4.18 is newer than 4.15, so how can this be? I see a line of 5.0 versions, ~ 10. 9 of them say "superseded&...

[SOLVED] Multiple Kernels in Update Manager

As I presumably have not run the update manager frequently enough, I see 2 newer kernels than what I have, Is it okay to update both of them at the same time, or do I update the older one, then reboot, then update the newer one?

[SOLVED] How much space is Timeshift supposed to take?

Mine is 40 GB according to the file manager (I tried checking with some terminal commands but kept getting "permission denied" messages, maybe I just needed to wait longer). It seems excessive considering that timeshift is not supposed to back up personal files. I have 7 snapshots with rsy...

Re: html file triggers "Do you want to run... or display its contents" dialog

Same question for pluma files (file type shows "plain text document (text/plain)" when I right-click it), which also bring up this dialog even though the files are not executable. These pluma files have no file extension.

html file triggers "Do you want to run... or display its contents" dialog

When I double-click on an html file, it brings up the above dialog and displays: "file.html is an executable text file" If I instead right-click on the file and go to "open with", a browser is already selected. So the dialog seems to bypass that. I know under Permissions, I can u...

Re: Simple scan stopped working

That's a pretty old scanner. Any chance your system has both USB2 and USB3 ports and during the move you changed scanner from USB2 to USB3 port on the system? You might want to read this thread where I recently ran some tests. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=285990&p=15832...

How can I detect malicious packages/software?

I assumed that packages installed from the terminal come from a repository that is examined for malicious software, but found out that this is not the case. I have not really checked that anything I have installed is safe, which would also include commands I ran in the terminal based on websites to ...

Determining last-used pip3 modules

I have been installing python modules using pip3 in the terminal. Is there a way to see the last time I used one, so that I can uninstall the ones I do not use/no longer need?

Clipboard Manager with Sequential Paste?

Is there a linux clipboard manager that does this? Eg, I want to copy many items in sequence, and then using the same keyboard command, it would paste them one after the other. Pastebot for Mac can do this. I tried Parcellite but I don't think it has this feature.

Re: Remember Brightness Settings

Is it possible a mod could move this to a more appropriate forum if indicated? I'm thinking it's probably not a MATE issue but more something to do with the underlying OS, graphics card, or something else. Also the laptop is getting unusable because it jumps to the brightest setting all the time.
