Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" released!

ElQuia: The "Other" and "System tools" categories are merged with "Administration" in mintMenu. We didn't like the way some applications seemed to be arbitrarily spread across these three categories so we merged all three of them. Clem. OK Clem, thanks for the tip ... should have noticed before :sh...

Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" released!

Clem, downloading iso as I write. I´m using the RC1, but I´m going to do a fresh install, because of the mint menu problems (Sub menu "Others" which has 11 elements in gnome menu doesn't show up in mint menu).

BTW: Any date for x64 release :?: :?: :?:

(please don´t say soon)

Re: Mint Home Server

Oceanwatcher: hey :!:, technical jargon doesn't bother me, as a linux noob, I gota learn 8) ... Just remember something: If you roam to far away from what most people use every day they won't use it, and for a server like this, (supposing one of its focus was a home server) that is: Mail & Calendar:...

Re: Mint Home Server

Oceanwatcher et al: you guys are a bit to technical for me :D As a end user I would LOVE the idea of home server like that. @home there are 4 pc's and 2 notebooks, each one with music, films, etc going on, and a LOT of duplicated multimedia files ...and of course the usual complaints about having to...

Re: Mint 6 DVD

I think it would be a REALLY cool idea. Why?, me for example, I do a LOT of installations for clients, all the soft I use is on DVD's (not the bootable rescue cd's) so I carry arround a DVDRW in my briefcase to be able to use it on machines (older) that don´t have one. So, let' see: A Kitchen sink d...

Re: Linux Mint 6 RC1 Bug Thread

MINT MENU Clem: I used the included app to modify the menu. Modifications (items rehabilitation like the "Others" Menu) show up on gnome main menu, but NOT on Mint Menu. Same happens with new items added manually. The RC1 is updated using mint update to today. Keep on the good work, I love the new s...

Re: Vulnerabilities in Open Office

cmost: I mainly agree with you. Linux Mint, the Mint developers and the Mint community do a fantastic job of finding a happy medium between ease of use and cutting edge features. The Mint developers take a rough Ubuntu base and transform it into the elegance and feature-rich experience that is Linux...

Re: Vulnerabilities in Open Office

febris: 1. I´m new to Linux so I dont know what LFS is. :? I guess that´s my problem and it´s out of the scope of this post explaining it. Really I thought that ALL in Linux was about freedom of choice.... guess I´ll have to do some  reading. Thanks for your advice anyway. I´ll stick with Mint...

Re: Vulnerabilities in Open Office

Husse, Clem. Ok I understand what you guys are saying, and (within my limited knowledge) I agree. But all this does not answer the question why OO 3.0 is not yet in the repos... I´ve installed it and I´m basking in glory because of the compatibility stuff with MSO 2007. It really solved a problem fo...

Re: Vulnerabilities in Open Office

Just did that. On Mint x64. Works OK!!!, Gnome integration and all. Now I just have to download the dictionaries and some templates. Had to work a while to find all traces of all OO. Uninstallation. This is a point in which linux has to walk some miles yet. No newbie can do a real clean uninstall .....

newbie question for Open Office & other uninstalls

Hello everybody: Questions: 1- How do I UNINSTALL fully an app, in this case OpenOffice? by fully I mean leave NO traces of it on my system. 2- I downloaded the new OpenOffice 3.0 from home page (the deb package: 157 mb),: How do I install it in order to get the gnome menus?. Both questions could be...
