Re: Do we REALLY need MINT?

in my case it always encourages me to make sure I understand what I have on the system and to do backups as I know that sooner or later I will be doing a fresh install. Well, you always must make backups, rolling or not rolling. I've always believed it's good practice for taking care of your hard d...

Re: Do we REALLY need MINT?

I think it's just good practice to wipe out and reinstall every couple of years. I do it with pretty much everything I own, phone, tablet (well, factory reset and complete wipe), PC laptop. Hell, even my PVR gets a complete reset and disk wipe every two years. To me, the Linux landscape changes so ...

Re: How to verify the ISO on Windows?

You can just use MD5 & SHA Checksum Utility ... A quite light and simple Windows tool with no install, just double-click on the .exe :) MD5 & SHA Checksum Utility is a tool that allows you to generate CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of single or multiple files. You can also ve...

Re: Does 'Snap' bring Linux Distros closer to mobile?

Nice link! thanks! Didnt know about AppImage. If AppImage already does the job so well, why haven't Ubuntu and Fedora tried to work on improving it instead of re-inventing the wheel? Well... what I experienced this week with Snap and Flatpak was a disaster. (...) Ubuntu wants to push Snap, but no o...

Re: Installing Google Chrome on LinuxMint

I've installed Chrome (not Chromium) a number of times and never added anything to my source list. I just download tjhe .deb file straight from Google's site, go into my downloads folder, right click the .deb file, and open it with gdebi. Yes, me too. When I used this stuff on Mint/Ubuntu/Debian, I...

Re: Add Kingsoft Office to Linux Mint repositories

I know Kingsoft Office as I used it on my old Android phones (old because now I am with Windows Phone 8 for one year now) and I can say it is one of the best, if not the best, office suite on Android for Microsoft Office format documents. OK, it's true you have just the Microsoft formats but for som...

Re: Is Linux Mint Spyware/Prism proof?

About privacy and security, people always talk about things like cookies, flash... and they should not forget about the hosts file, but there is now something much more dangerous and it's DOM storage. DOM storage has become a much bigger threat to our privacy than the dreaded cookies were. Unfortuna...

I'm downloading youtube-videos (.flv and .mp4-files) with youtube-dl and want to strip them down to mp3 or vorbis. Just a question. Why don't use JDownloader to downloaded your files? It downloads the file in all format available on YouTube and even extracts automagically the audio from the video i...
