Re: What Killed the Linux Desktop

Miguel de Icaza is not a stranger neither a novice in the Linux and open source world, so what he has to say may be worthy of some interest...

What Killed the Linux Desktop

Loving OSX is the wrong thing to do, but Linux on the Desktop can only be dead.

Re: is it true that you wont be able to put linux on a pc?

I guess all of this about UEFI and Secure Boot is just FUD. Allow me here to just copy some other posts: It is really hard to believe for me how widespread the FUD, coming from uninformed bloggers (or bloggers that intentionally spread FUD to get more clicks on their site) is in reality: I would rec...

Re: If Linux Mint disappeared tomorrow, what would you use?

And, I'll never go back to running only one distro. The way I figure it, I didn't like being tied down to only Windows, so why should I tie myself down to any one Linux distro? It is further necessary there are several distros suitable... I mean, many distros are just bad and/or buggy, others have ...

Re: Nautilus stinks! Why in the heck are we still using it?

Well, as I use GNOME no more now, I don't know precisely what they have done to Nautilus but in the GNOME 2 years it was the best file manager. It was complete enough, even it could use some protocols the others could not stand. But some time ago, I have read some articles where people explained the...

Sabayon? Oh my God! Probably not, no thanks. Fedora, Mageia... With probably exclusively KDE, at least currently. Windows 7, a relatively good OS, even if some can think the contrary...

What? Now we need 'Super' in addition to 'alt'? Better and better. Or more accurately getting worse and worse, or more and more stupid, moron, as you prefer... It should be a right-click to bring up a menu, plain and simple. Re: fallback mode

First off, gnome 3 can be made to act very similar to g2 with extensions. Secondly, am I the only person in the world who doesn't give a rat's @ss about what DE they use? I take pride in being able to adapt to anything thrown my way. I purposely install a new DE (actually I reinstall a different ve...

Re: fallback mode

Please read this blog posting by Vincent Untz (also a Gnome dev) (comments 44, 50 and 58 in particular) before you claim something isn't true. Well, I have not said you're wrong but just I had read a post by a GNOME dev some time ago where he said probably the fallback mode would not be supported a...

Re: fallback mode

Originally, Untz claimed with certainty that Fallback Mode would be available as long as Gnome3 itself, but development of the software rendering has made that less certain. Hum, not true, I guess. I had read a post by a GNOME dev some time ago where he said probably the fallback mode would not be ...

Re: Thinking About Fedora 17 KDE

The things linuxviolin mentoned are good things for someone to take note of before deciding to use this distro. Oh thanks! :D yum update seems easier to me than: sudo apt-get update / sudo apt-get upgrade. Well, it's true the Yum commands are easy to remember and quite simple... yum update, yum sea...

Re: Thinking About Fedora 17 KDE

I have been primarily a Fedora user over the years. Yet I am down to just my last Fedora 17 desktop (and it's using KDE, not that disgusting Gnome 3 tripe), *every other desktop I use* having gone to Linux Mint 13 or LMDE. I was sick and tired of the alpha-minus-minus software that the Fedora proje...

Re: Thinking About Fedora 17 KDE

Hey guys, it's just my experience... On my desktop the things work well but I can't say on every Linux box this will be mandatory the same thing... PreUpgrade is a great tool which worked very well on my desktop at every time I used it but there are also surely people who have had problems with it. ...

Re: Thinking About Fedora 17 KDE

 What's interesting to me is that, so often, folks who don't like GNOME Shell have such strong feelings about it and feel the need to describe it in such disparaging terms. It isn't enough to say, "It isn't my preferred desktop," but instead it's a "bastard child" and "crap" and so forth. Yes,...
