Re: Hybrid Graphics Radeon/Nvidia

J-Hass, I haven’t been able to reply until today because of some pressing personal obligations. The padoka PPA does not support Mint 20/Ubuntu 20.04. The kisak-mesa PPA and oibaf PPA are alternatives that should work, but I want to pursue a different path. User jamjam , who has the same laptop as yo...

Re: Hybrid Graphics Radeon/Nvidia

Try using a different kernel. User hglee , who has similar hardware, says in this post that the 5.6 kernel will work: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1883745#p1883745 You can try the newest 5.6 kernel, which is 5.6.19, and if that doesn’t work, try the newest 5.7 kernel, which is 5.7.19...

Re: Hybrid Graphics Radeon/Nvidia

What I meant to say is: Does the screen blinking happen after you switch back to the AMD GPU for graphics rendering? If not, then try installing nvidia-driver-450 . First switch to AMD graphics if not already done. Then use this command to remove nvidia-driver-440 : sudo apt-get purge *nvidia* Reboo...

Re: Hybrid Graphics Radeon/Nvidia

...I am curious as to how you can see that everything seems configured correctly. After upgrading the kernel, the inxi output listed the amdgpu driver was loading: Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.8 driver: amdgpu, ati What is confusing to most users is the ati driver. According to the info in the Sy...

Re: Hybrid Graphics Radeon/Nvidia

I feel I should mention that my screen post-reboot is now blinking black approximately every 3 seconds. Even after you get to the desktop? Did you try rebooting a second time? I noticed that you changed the refresh rate from 77 Hz in your first post to 144 Hz. Can you try switching back to 77 Hz. T...

Re: Hybrid Graphics Radeon/Nvidia

Secure Boot prevents the Nvidia driver from loading. Either leave it disabled in the BIOS, or if you want it enabled for an added layer of security, then the Nvidia kernel modules that were built during the Nvidia driver installation will need to be signed. Many distributions require modules to be ...

Re: Hybrid Graphics Radeon/Nvidia

You need better kernel support for your newer hardware. The 5.7.1 kernel has worked well for several other users with similar hardware. To get the newer kernel, use these commands to install the Ubuntu Mainline Kernel Installer : https://github.com/bkw777/mainline sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cappeli...

Re: Configure External Monitor AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics

To get the external monitor to work, you will need to install the Nvidia driver. The nvidia-driver-440 in Driver Manager does not have support for the 5.8 kernel. You will need to add the graphics-drivers PPA to get the newer nvidia-driver-450 , which does have support. Use these commands to add the...

Re: New computer. Mint 20 "Check your video drivers"

No, I have not tried the GPU switching script yet. Should I? I have two external monitors that I like to use simultaneously with my built-in monitor. If it's the case that the HDMI port is tied to the nvidia gpu, then I figured I'll be using the nvidia driver all the time anyway. You don’t need to ...

Re: [Solved] Can't get two displays working

adityajh49, The Nvidia GPU is now doing the graphics rendering. For situations where you don’t need to use the monitor attached to the HDMI port and the greater processing power of the Nvidia GPU, then the integrated AMD GPU should be used. This will help keep laptop temperatures down and prevent ov...

Re: Can't get two displays working

adityajh49, You have the same CPU and almost the same GPU as user ficus2 in this topic, which SMG previously posted, except he has a GTX 1660 Ti. So those instructions should work. However, there is one difference. Your inxi output shows the BusID is 7 for the AMD GPU. In all the other similar topic...

Re: Mint 20 Slight screen tearing Nvidia graphics

Use this command to open the nvidia-kms.conf file: xed admin:///lib/modprobe.d/nvidia-kms.conf

The value of this line should be 1, not 0: options nvidia-kms modeset=1

If you need to change the value, then update the initial ramdisk when done and reboot:
sudo update-initramfs -u

Re: Brightness not working after switching to Nvidia driver

The parameter acpi_osi=! \"acpi_osi=Windows 2009\" is the only Windows parameter you will test in the grub file. Use the instructions how to add it in the linked topic:

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=! \"acpi_osi=Windows 2009\""

Does the monitor connected to DP work if the other monitor is not connected? Don’t get a VGA splitter. As the product description says, you will get the sa...

Try using this command:
xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --mode 3840x2160 --rate 60

If that doesn’t work, then post the output of xrandr --verbose
