Re: Brightnes always on max after reboot

Install xbacklight in the Synaptic Package Manager. Go to Menu > Preferences > Startup Applications. Click on "Add". In the new window under "Name" you can put "Brightness". In the "Command" window put xbacklight -set 80 The value can be from 5 to 100. Click save. Reboot and test the setting. If the...

Re: Fn key and right arrow lock screen (unwanted)

Would you open the Terminal and type: ls /lib/udev/keymaps
and post the results.

Then type: /lib/udev/findkeyboards
and from the result get the input number.

Then type: /lib/udev/keymap -i input/eventX
where X is the input number from the step above.

Post the results.

Re: Cannot change brightness

The test for the vgaswitcheroo switch shows it is available. Even if you disabled the radeon driver, I doubt if your brightness problem would be fixed. To test for this, you could prevent the radeon driver from loading by adding the line "blacklist radeon" to the "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf" fil...

Re: Cannot change brightness

Your laptop has a particularly difficult problem since no entries are found in /sys/class/backlight or /proc/acpi, which indicates no method of backlight control has been found. I have only seen this in two other messages I have read from other people with similar brightness problems, out of about 2...

Re: How do to edit desklet settings?

What formatting change do you want to make to the Clock desklet? Would the ClockTow desklet be more suitable since it has seconds displayed and shows the day and month, and is easily customized. For example you can change the default display below: clockTow-desklet-1.png to the display below: clockT...

Re: Mint 15 - Samsung backlit keyboard

Do you need to use the keyboard backlight? If not, then the ambient light sensor can be turned off in the BIOS, right? Do your function keys for screen brightness work, and are they F2 and F3?. Do your keys for volume control work, and are they F7 and F8? Your laptop problem can be dealt with in two...

Re: Super key doesn't work. Any workaround of fix?

You can upgrade to Mint 15 Cinnamon, then the custom keyboard shortcuts you make will work. I tried changing the Super_L key to two other
combinations and they both worked. Making custom keyboard shortcuts did not work in Mint 14.

Re: Keyboard shortcuts not working ( mint 14 cinnamon )

Perhaps the best solution is to upgrade to Mint 15 Cinnamon. Making custom keyboard shortcuts works fine.

Re: Hi, I really liked Mint, but...

I tried to install mint 15 cinnamon on my Samsung laptop NP355V4C-S03CL. It worked, but it has annoyig issues with the Fn keys, and the brightness level, so I'll quit Mint for a while. Did you try installing the Samsung-Tools utility? Check out the link below for more information: http://forums.lin...

You can try deleting the "user" file, which stores user desktop preferences. It's a hidden file located in /home/your-user-name/.config/dconf
A new one will be created.

If using Mint Cinnamon or Mate go to /etc/default and right click on the file "grub" and select "Open as Root" or "Open as Administrator". Open the file and change the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" into one of the following lines: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=”acpi_osi="!Windows 2012" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_b...

You may have to manually edit the "xorg.conf" file.
What is the result when you use the following command in the Terminal: xrandr

Re: Cinnamon Crashes Mint 15 with Nvidia 319 drivers

I just installed Nvidia's 319.23 driver in Mint 15 which I downloaded from Nvidia, with no problems. However, if you have Optimus technology,
then you probably need Bumblebee installed. See this topic:

It worked correctly every time after that and all the other apps work in Preferences when clicked. One minor p...
