Re: MX 518 - disable mouse acceleration - Linux Mint 15

When you use the xinput command (or xinput list), are you getting more than one listing of your mouse, with two different id numbers? It seems that your mouse wasn't detected properly since the acceleration properties are not listed. Mine are listed below: Device Accel Profile (263): 0 Device Accel ...

Re: MX 518 - disable mouse acceleration - Linux Mint 15

Try running this command in the Terminal: xinput --set-prop 8 “Device Accel Velocity Scaling” 1 To make the change persistent at each system startup, you can add a startup application. Go to Menu > Preferences > Startup Applications. Click on "Add". In the new window under "Name" you can put "disabl...

Re: Mint 15 - Samsung backlit keyboard

romafederico, Up until now I have not read of anyone on the Mint or other Linux forums with a Samsung series 7 laptop having success with the method in this topic, only some users of Samsung series 9 laptops. Did you install Mint 15 with UEFI mode or CSM mode (legacy BIOS) set in the BIOS? When you ...

Re: brightness problem

What brand and model is the notebook? You can test these kernel boot parameters in the grub boot file. The effect will only last for one session and will no longer be in effect after restarting your system. At the grub boot menu press e. If there is more than one operating system installed, then fir...

Try running this command in the Terminal: gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad touchpad-enabled true If that doesn't work, then turn off the touchpad and turn it back on by running these commands: gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad touchpad-enabled f...

Re: Problem with Nvidia 325.08 driver on Mint 13 Mate deskto

Can you post the contents of the “xorg.conf” file by running the command:
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

If this file doesn't exist, then create one by running the command “nvidia-xconfig”.

and the Nvidia information in the “Xorg.0.log” file by running the command:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i nvidia

Re: NVIDIA and LMDE 64bit MATE problems...

From my testing with LMDE cinnamon edition, the graphics drivers downloaded from the Nvidia website won't install on LMDE using the standard method of installation. The kernel on LMDE was compiled with gcc version 4.6 but the installed version is gcc 4.7, which is needed to build the Nvidia kernel m...

Re: Cannot adjust brightness on Acer Aspire One laptop

bjornmu You can also temporarily add commands (kernel boot parameters) to the grub file for testing. The effect will only last for one session and will no longer be in effect after restarting your system. No permanent changes are made. Follow the instructions in my first post to get to the grub boot...

Re: Cannot get grub menu to show with Shift key

I have better results by holding down the shift key immediately after starting or sometimes by repeatedly tapping the key.
If the system hangs at the initial vendor logo screen when you hold down shift, just release the key briefly then hold it down again,

Re: Cannot adjust brightness on Acer Aspire One laptop

Actually editing the grub boot file is frequently done, with occasional problems but the changes are easily reversed. What I meant in my previous post is that I personally have helped one other person in the Mint forums with the same problem and laptop model as yours. You can try the xbacklight prog...

This method worked for another person with the same laptop model but his system had Mint 14 installed. First check to see if the kernel has control of the backlight by running this command for a Samsung laptop in the Terminal: sudo echo 7 > /sys/devices/platform/samsung/leds/samsung\:\:kbd_backlight/brightness if that doesn't work try: echo 7 | sudo tee /sys/devices/platform/samsung/leds/samsung\:\:k...

Re: Disable Touchpad While Typing (Linux Mint 15 Olivia)

Your problem is harder to solve. Running xinput shows your touchpad is being recognized as a Ps/2 Generic Mouse. After doing a search on this problem in Linux forums, I see that this is a more common problem than I realized. Look at the topic below. The author and another person were successful in g...

Re: VertTwoFingerScroll setting keeps being forgotten

Be sure your Startup Application command is disabled. Open the “50-synaptics.conf” file with this command: sudo gedit /user/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf Change the “true” in the two added commands to “1”. Save the file, reboot and test the touchpad. If this fails then try this method. Ope...

Re: nVidia drivers.... need help

Were you ever able to install any Nvidia drivers with the 3.9.4 kernel? From the testing I did on my Mint 14 and 15 systems, I was able to download and install the 304, 310 and three versions of the 319 drivers without any problems. On fresh installations with the nouveau driver installed, I then in...

Right now only root can read and write to the file: /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness The permissions need to be changed to allow others to write to it.
