Re: [Help] Brightness on ASUS g73sw

After installing the proprietary Nvidia driver, did you run the following command in the Terminal, to start using the driver. sudo nvidia-xconfig If not, then do so. Then reboot. This will also generate a new "xorg.conf" file. Since you are using XFCE, then type this command in the Terminal to open ...

Re: Why doesn't brightness level persist after reboot - Cinn

There seems to be no universal solution to this laptop problem. Some people have solved the problem by simply editing the grub file in /etc/default and changing the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to one of the following lines, and then running the command "sudo update-grub" in the Te...

Re: [Help] Brightness on ASUS g73sw

Are you saying that after you changed the line in your grub file, that you can use your function keys to change the brightness to only one setting, and that is minimum? You can try replacing the line with one of the following. Remember you need to run in the Terminal "sudo update-grub" after each ch...

This topic is now locked, so I have added updated info on Mint 18.3 Cinnamon menu and panel editing to my last post in this topic: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=124153 Is there any way to edit the 'Administration' and 'Preferences' sections of the Cinnamon menu? Yes you can if ...

Re: Brightness not adjustable..

Try installing the "indicator-brightness" program. In the Terminal type each command and press Enter: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:indicator-brightness/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install indicator-brightness If that doesn't work then open Nemo and go to /etc/default. Right click on the grub...

Have anyone tried using the "indicator-brightness" program. In the Terminal type each command and press Enter. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:indicator-brightness/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install indicator-brightness rameshiit19, did you try the solution Dirk2013 gave? Re: Locked desktop icons

Are you using the Mate, KDE or LXDE desktop. Did you do something before this happened, like install a different desktop or install updates? I assume you can still click on the icons and start the applications. How many icons have you added to the desktop?

Re: acer aspire one 756 - screen brightness

My mistake. I had forgotten that you have to add the following PPA to your software sources before you can get "indicator-brightness".
In the Terminal type each command and press Enter.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:indicator-brightness/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install indicator-brightness

Re: acer aspire one 756 - screen brightness

As you already know, this problem of not being able to adjust the laptop brightness is very common and frustrating, affecting all brands of laptops. Here is a list of changes to the grub file that I have seen used by others so far. Each has worked for some but not for others. GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acp...

Re: acer aspire one 756 - screen brightness

You should already have a grub file. Open Nemo and go to "/etc/default" and open the grub file. From your information the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" should have been changed to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor” If you don't see this, then close the file. Right click on it and...

Re: How and Where to Install TouchFreeze

I'm glad I could help you. To answer your question, you probably did a search for “TouchFreeze” but I also did a search for “disable touchpad in linux”. If you ever need to remove the Touchpad-Indicator application, then just open the Synaptic Package Manager and type the name in the search window. ...

Re: How and Where to Install TouchFreeze

Touchpad-Indicator is not a windows application but a Linux applet, so you don't need to install Wine. I did some further investigation and found a better source. In the menu open the Terminal and type this command, or copy and paste it into Terminal, and then press "Enter". sudo apt-get install pyt...

Re: How and Where to Install TouchFreeze

I tried to install it by running the listed commands in terminal for Linux Mint Cinnamon running in a virtual machine. However, it was not available now. I couldn't find any recent information. Howeve...

Re: my userrname tells all

I understand your frustration, especially since USB flash drives are so important for many people in the every day use of computers. I had a similar experience about two months ago. I had installed an .iso image file on a drive and after using it I deleted the partition and created a new one using G...

Re: XBMC on LMDE , plugin marked as broken

I did some further testing of XBMC on LMDE. In the previous post I had installed version 11, which solved the broken Add-ons problem. Today I uninstalled it and reinstalled version 12. This time the program worked identical to version 11, the same 6 Add-ons were broken. I had noticed during the init...

Re: XBMC on LMDE , plugin marked as broken

In Linux Mint Cinnamon, XBMC installs with very few broken Add-ons from the Synaptic Package Manager, but I noticed that it was version 11 (Eden). On Linux Mint Debian, the XBMC version in Synaptic is 12 (Frodo). I installed it and got the same result as you. Others have also reported the same probl...

Re: Problems after lastest update.

Why did you update the kernel? Did you use the Synaptic Package Manager? Are you unable to mount both FAT32 formatted USB flash drives and hard drives? I have a second installation of Linux Mint Cinnamon on another partition on my hard drive for testing purposes, so I upgraded the kernel like you di...

Re: /user/share/themes does not work with my themes.

Did you put the theme in the "~/.themes" folder (/home/your-user-name/.themes) and extract it there? This is where new themes are supposed to be placed. The Themes section of the Linux Mint Cinnamon web site tells you this. This folder doesn't exist so you have to make it.
