Re: AMD APU+AMD GPU Laptop - Can't turn on dedicated graphics

Since MATE is installed, you could try different Window Managers under Preferences > Desktop Settings > Windows > Window Manager . vga_switcheroo is the kernel mechanism that allows you to switch between GPUs but only if your machine has a hardware switch called a mux. Most laptops today with hybrid...

Re: AMD APU+AMD GPU Laptop - Can't turn on dedicated graphics

Your inxi output doesn’t say which Mint edition is installed, probably because you used inxi -Fz instead of inxi -Fxz , but I assume it’s Cinnamon. This web page has info on PRIME GPU Offloading : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PRIME It says under the section Black screen with GL-based composi...

Use this command: xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 1 0

Then post the outputs of using these two commands:
glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"
DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"

Re: No hardware acceleration, Thinkpad W550s, Nvidia K620M, Mint 19

Switching GPUs (via Nvidia X server settings) I found that glxgears (vblank_mode=0) gave me 6500 fps for the integrated GPU and 4700 fps for the dedicated NVIDIA. glxgears is a very limited test of OpenGL function, so it should not be used to predict 3D performance. I get a similar result as you. I...

Re: How to update IntelHD gpu drivers?

Try using this kernel parameter, which has helped some users on the NVIDIA Linux Graphics forum. The effect will only last for one session. At the GRUB boot menu select the correct line but don’t press Enter. Press the “ E ” key to edit. If no menu shows, then hold down the shift key while starting....

Re: Mint 19 - NVIDIA Graphics Driver - Installation error

So, the thing is... I've restarted the system and that is the result: http://i.imgur.com/rkKIgp4.png I honestly don't know how this happened, perhaps some update made it run correctly. I see that happen sometimes after making a driver config change, where two restarts are needed for the system to c...

mokutil --sb-state EFI variables are not supported on this system That message should only be seen if the laptop does not have a Secure Boot option in the BIOS. Your second post shows the output of mokutil --sb-state was SecureBoot enabled Is this the same laptop? Post the Xorg.0.log file. Use this...

Re: Can't go back from Nvidia drivers to nouveau

That’s normal for that icon to still be there. What’s not normal is that it shows Nvidia Mode when clicked. After removing the Nvidia driver, it should show Intel Mode . This is due to some more buggy operation of nvidia-prime . To get that back to normal, use this command in the Terminal and reboot...

Re: Can't go back from Nvidia drivers to nouveau

That’s a bug in the operation of Driver Manager. Prior to Mint 19, the only time that message was seen was when a Nvidia driver was downloaded and installed from Nvidia’s website. Now it happens every time the Nviidia driver is installed and later removed using Driver Manager. Open the Terminal and ...

Re: Mint 19 - NVIDIA Graphics Driver - Installation error

You may have a complicated problem on your hybrid graphics system that may take a considerable amount of troubleshooting to solve. You should decide if you want to save time and do a reinstallation of Mint, or use a Timeshift restore point, if there was one created before trying to install any Nvidi...

In a process of understanding, do you know why it seems impossible to "force" the vesa mode, instead of the fbdev? I tried, comparing the options of the LiveCD vs Installation result grub-level configuration, to add " xforcevesa " and " nomodeset ", but without success. :( said otherwise, w...

I don’t know of a way to have one command in one configuration file that affects both the desktop and login screen resolution. To change the login screen resolution, you could try the method user AndyMH used in his last post on page 1 of this topic: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=...

Re: Will Primary Monitor section be saved ?

If you mirror the displays, then the Menu and panel will appear on both. Or you can deselect mirror mode and set the connected monitor as primary. Both configurations should be retained upon rebooting. The only problem I experienced was on a PC with Mint 19 Xfce, 2 monitors connected and Nvidia grap...
