Java Hangs With Linux Mint 6

Just installed Linux Mint 6 on my HP laptop and everything looks great. However, this one wall I've encountered. When I go to a web page that requires Java, the page hangs in Firefox. Any page will hang if Java is required. What do I need to do?

Re: Mint 5 and Software Issues

The Mint menu problem is hopefully easy to fix - it's pin_menu :) Open gconf-editor You issue that in a terminal or with Alt+F2 Look up the key /apps/mintMenu In the right hand window scroll down a little bit and you find pin_menu It should not be marked, if it is you get the behaviour you describe...

Re: Mint 5 and Software Issues

Just to make sure, you need to be running compiz in order for AWN to run. If you don't have compiz running that exact behaviour will occur. You're absolutely right and I appreciate your timely reply. I had turned compiz off about a month ago. I had forgot that awn needs compiz to run properly. Than...

Mint 5 and Software Issues

Let there be no doubt about it, I'm thoroughly enjoying my Linux Mint. Having written that, I'm having a few problems that someone might be able to help me with. One, Avant Window Navigator loads as a processor but doesn't show up. Two, Mintmenu, the latest backported from version 6, has a behavior ...

Haven't Updated in a Long Time

I'm using Linux Mint 5. I have selected to update Mint (safe) related files only. I've noticed that I haven't seen an update in over a month. Is this normal? I just want to make sure the update feature is functioning as it was designed. Other than that, Mint 5 is awesome!

Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" RC1 released!

This is exciting news indeed. I am curious though. Will any of the new programs or updates be ported back to Linux Mint 5? I've never used Linux Mint prior to version 5, and I'm not sure what impact a new build has on older build. Too, will there be an upgrade to Linux 6 from Linux 5?

Re: How Difficult Must This Be?

To be honest with you, I fixed the problem. It really was simple once I gave it some thought. Using the Package Manager, I reinstalled the Linux-Mint Usplash. After that, I reinstalled Startup-Manager and selected the Linux-Mint usplash I had just installed. Rebooted the system and everything was fi...

How Difficult Must This Be? solved

Comrades: I believe this to be a simple problem with a simple solution. I have Linux Mint 5 installed on a HP laptop whose screen resolution is 1280x800 - it's a widescreen laptop. I installed startup-manager and it messed up my grub. The only problem I'm having is the fact that I can't seem to find...

Help Make Progress Window Return

Okay! I'm using Linux Mint 5. I installed Startup-Manager and I don't like the results. While booting, I see text scrolling down the screen instead of the 'progress bar window' that I'm accustomed to seeing. I don't want to see text. I want to see the progress window only. Using Startup-Manager, I t...

Re: Shift-key STOPPED working

I solved this problem. It appears I had to turn off Compiz and restart it. This corrected the shift key problem.

Shift-key STOPPED working

I'm using Linux Mint 5 dual-booted with windows Vista. I set up my POP email in Thunderbird today. After that, I noted that the shift key stopped working; I noted this when attempting to make the first letter of a sentence a capital letter. Noting the strange behavior, I decided to restart my laptop...

Three Anamolies

I'm using Linux Mint 5, dual booted with Windows Vista. There are three things that challenges me. 1. Screensaver WILL NOT work if I use Compiz. 2. If I right-click on an image and select 'save as desktop wallpaper', the appropriate window opens up but doesn't work. 3. I only have one desktop worksp...
