I am having freezes when emptying trash on Mint 7

Hi, I am having complete freezes when I empty the trash in Mint 7. I use the ext4 file system which seems to be the problem: http://shorl.com/rarotraniprevy Since I am not on Ubuntu I choose to post it here also since it may affect Mint users on ext4. I would also like to ask if people here think th...

Re: Minor LogIn problem

So after fixing the problem I decided to try to reproduce it... I logged into a "regular user" session and plugged in my external USB HD. I then opened Computer>FIlesystem>Home and right clicked my username folder... I then selected "copy"... then I used right click>paste to copy the folder to the ...

Re: Upgrading from Mint 7 RC1 to final.

I installed Mint RC1 some time ago. I did all the updates meanwhile. If I look at the info file in /etc/linuxmint, it tells me I have release 7, Gloria, Main Edition. Does anyone know if my RC1 version has been updated to the final release already? Or is there another way of upgrading to the final ...

Re: Can't get 1280x800 on my Samsung Q310 laptop

That's odd - you use the Screen resolution tool? Anyway I've seen some problems with the GMA4500 First step is to check if you have the intel driver Open /etc/X11/xorg.info and find Section "Device" There should be a line Driver "intel" If not (which might be the case) add it and restart X (Ctrl+Al...

Re: Upgrading from Mint 7 RC1 to final.

The Mint 7 stable release should be out in the next few days. http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=845 Why not wait instead of having to upgrade? I have used Mint "for ages" and would have to use Windows on my new laptop until Mint 7 final is out. I do not know how to use Windows anymore and was hoping...

Upgrading from Mint 7 RC1 to final.

Hi, I need a Jaunty based Mint on my new laptop because of graphics card support issues in Mint 6. If I install 7 RC1 how seamless will the upgrade to final be? Will I only have to do recommended updates and end up with final, or will I at some point have to do a complete reinstall of my system? I k...

Can't get 1280x800 on my Samsung Q310 laptop

Hi, Mint 6 installed on my Samsung Q310 laptop without problems. Everything works except for not being able to select 1280x800 screen resolution. I can only select 4:3 resolutions no WXVGA resolutions are offered at all. The graphics card is an integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD. What do I need to do to h...

Re: How to prevent a program from taking Thunar's place?

This is something that Firefox does - not the operating system regardless of where FF is installed In FF Edit> Preferences > Applications Then edit what you want "EasyTag" to do Thanks. I can't find any reference to EasyTag in the "Applications" settings in Firefox. Also, what is supposed to happen...

How to prevent a program from taking Thunar's place?

Hi, I am relatively new to Mint XFCE, so please bear with me if what I am asking should be obvious. I am having a problem with files association, especially with regards to Thunar. I installed the program "EasyTag". Now when I select "open directory" from the Firefox download manager EasyTag opens i...

Re: My usb drive with one ntfs partiton gets mounted read only.

Look at the fstab line The options are as follows ro,nosuid,nodev,noatime,allow_other,blksize=4096 The first option is ro - care to make a guess what that means :) Remove ro and hopefully it works (don't forget the trailing comma after ro) Well, I did not know if I was supposed to create an entry i...

My usb drive with one ntfs partiton gets mounted read only.

Hi, I have a Lacie external USB drive with one ntfs partition on it. I have all the ntfs stuff installed on my MInt 5 XFCE laptop. I have another internal ntfs partition mounted at all times without problems. However, the USB drive gets mounted read only. I have tried to set it to read/write by inst...
