Opera as prefered browser in Mint 8 not working right.

Hi, I have Opera set as prefered browser in the "Preffered Applications" settings. When I click on links in other programs Opera is opened if it isn't already running. However, if Opera is running (like it is most of the time), nothing happens. No new tab is opened as I have it set to be. What could...

Volume control problem in Mint 8

Hi, I have a problem with sound in Mint 8: In the Sound Preferences I can adjust the volume to above 100% (which is good on my laptop), but as soon as I try to adjust the volume from the desktop bar volume control or multimedia keys it pops back down below 100% and I can't get it up again unless I r...

I have another laptop I haven't updated yet. I must have done something back then but I am not able to remember what. I will dig a little deeper :)

Re: Black fonts in dropdowns on qt4 applications.

Can't help you with Skype, but Opera can be started with the -systemstyle switch. Type "opera -systemstyle" in a terminal or change your shortcuts to include -systemstyle in the command. Thanks! That fixed Opera. Tried the switch on Skype hoping it wold work. It didn't :) I wonder why this has chan...

Black fonts in dropdowns on qt4 applications.

Hi, On qt4 based applications (like Opera qt4 builds and Skype 2.1) in Mint 8 64 bit the font on the dark gray dropdown menus are black. On Gnome applications they are white. In Mint 7 they were the same, namely white on both. The black fonts makes it really hard to see the dropdown options, so I wo...

I know I can set MTU manually for each wireless connection, but how can I set it so that all wireless connections, new or stored get a fixed MTU?

Why no qt4 based version of Opera in Mint?

Hi, I really like that Mint offers Opera out of the box. However, I do not understand why the qt3 based version is offered when there's qt4 based builds available. The qt4 based builds looks and integrates much better into the Mint dekstop. I've been using qt4 builds myself for quite a while without...

Not able to remove wine items from the menu

Hi, There are a couple of Windows/wine items in my menu I am not able to remove with the menu editor in Mint 7 (Main Menu/alacarte). When I highlight them and hit "Delete" nothing happens. Is there another way to remove these items? Another issue is that the mint menu seems to have some problems wit...

Re: mint x64 7 - hard crash

Just had another crash. The system log and message log look almost identical to the ones I posted previously. At the time I was browsing the web and watching a *.avi and downloading. Only features of the crash were that, my usb dropped out completely -> no power to mouse or keyboard. Total system l...

Wireless data transport (Intel 5100AGN) comes and goes

Wireless data transport (Intel 5100AGN) comes and goes Hi, I have two different Mint 7 laptops with Intel 5100 AGN wireless adapters connected WPA2 to my network. They both use the iwlagn driver and connect to the network without problems. However, if I either stream or download a large file the net...

Re: Not able to create tar.7z files with Fileroller

Well why don't you try doing it with the command line (tar) and see if you get an error - that way you isolate fileroller - something like: tar cf - "file_directory" | 7z a -si -t7z archive.tar.7z It works fine from the command line (thank you for the syntax), so it's Fileroller messing up here. I ...

Re: Not able to create tar.7z files with Fileroller

The p7zip package is not installed in Gloria, which I believe is required for .7z archiving, so try: "sudo apt-get install p7zip" and then see if you can get fileroller to do what you want. Thanks, did what you suggested: p7zip is already the newest version. So it is installed. I can create 7zip fi...

Not able to create tar.7z files with Fileroller

Hi, When I try to create a tar.7z file in Mint 7 Gloria 64 the archiver, Fileroller, crashes with this in the log: general protection ip:7fafb8f84c40 sp:7fffc3202478 error:0 in libc-2.9.so[7fafb8f04000+168000] This has worked fine in the past, and can create both 7z and tar archives standalone. What...

It's really not that hard. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=27679 The remaster advice was good. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=26955&p=174335&hilit=remastersys#p174335 I guess what I am most concerned about is how to get back to my current driver if I should want t...

Hi I think that if you have a well behaved installation stick with what you have. How-ever you could remaster your system and then try out the new driver, instructions are as follows: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=7ef3e925876fbc89fd55a52512e47d57&t=72490 Best advice is be patient...

Getting the latest Nvidia drivers (185) installed on Mint.

Hi, I am usually not needing to be running bleeding edge, but I do like to have the latest video drivers running. I see that Nvidia had a new Linux display driver build out, version 185.18.29. Since I have a couple of minor problems with 180 which seems to be fixed in 185 I would like to find out if...

Hi, I am having the exact same problem on my Mint 7 x64 laptop: Random total freezes/lockups. I can not find anything conclusive in the logs, but have a feeling it has to do with network activity. It mostly happens when I am not using the computer, but yesterday it happened in the middle of watching...

I have found a fix here:

I had to follow all the procedures in this post to fix the problem.

I still do not know why it happened in the first place, or if it will return. So far the error message has been gone for a couple of days.

Re: I am having freezes when emptying trash on Mint 7

From what I read it appears to be a kernel-filesystem issue and that this update to the kernel would solvbe the problem: http://www.ramoonus.nl/2009/03/24/linux-kernel-2629-installation-guide-for-ubuntu-and-debian-linux/ So if I installed a 2.6.29.x kernel the problem would be solved? I have never ...
