Re: Uncontrollable transparancy with VBox's VMSVGA driver

Now, with this reply, I've switched back to VBoxVGA. All is now normal. Now, Cinnamon doesn't go transparent, even if I tell it to go transparent. Either there's something wrong with the VBox display drivers, or there's something wrong with Cinnamon. I'm trying to determine which is which. Clearly, ...

Re: Uncontrollable transparancy with VBox's VMSVGA driver

In this reply I've switched to the VMSVGA driver: VirtualBox_Mint18_03_10_2019_14_32_02.png As you see, I'm trying to post to VBox forum. Note that there's a 'Subject' text box somewhere up there, but it's transparent, so I can't see it. Also, white text on black background has problems because the ...

Re: Uncontrollable transparancy with VBox's VMSVGA driver

I don't think Cinnamon is responsible for a malfunction with a specific graphics driver, but I have not investigated the technical details (I've not even seen the issue and all my VMs use VMSVGA and have been for quite a while). Your conclusion: that the graphics driver is malfunctioning, may be pr...

Isn't this something you should talk to the VirtualBox developers about?
Maybe, maybe not. The transparancy is uncontrollable, and I believe that's Cinnamon's responsibility, isn't it?

Re: Unresponsive - getting notices that the network is reconnecting

I invite folks to https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=302858 . That topic is a continuation of this one. I just realized that they're the same problem. But the new URL is a better topic with a better syslog dump ...more informative. The new Linux kernel is to blame. It is now confirmed...

Re: Terminal appears momentarily -- Make sticky -- How?

Wrap it in the bash -c "..." as advised there. Thanks René. Worked like a charm. I will take that info to my grave. :) PS: For anyone else reading this looking for the answer: Name: inxi -Fxz&&lsusb&&lspci Command: bash -c "inxi -Fxz&&lsusb&&lspci;read -p 'Press Enter to continue'" [x] Launch in Te...

Re: Terminal appears momentarily -- Make sticky -- How?

See the end of my recent post here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1694494#p1694494 I changed Command: inxi -Fxz&&lsusb&&lspci to Command: inxi -Fxz&&lsusb&&lspci;read -p 'Press Enter to continue' The change had no effect. PS: I rebooted and tried again. The change had no effect.

[SOLVED] Terminal appears momentarily -- Make sticky -- How?

I created a new Cinnamon Menu button
Name: inxi -Fxz&&lsusb&&lspci
Command: inxi -Fxz&&lsusb&&lspci
[x] Launch in Terminal?

When I click the button, something appears momentarily on the Panel. Presumably it's the terminal session.

How can I get it to 'stick around'?

[SOLVED] Network issue on LM 19.2 VM - "Connection Established"

SOLUTION: Give up on Mint19. ...the following is ancient history... SUMMARY: My Mint 18.3 VM is fine. My Mint 19.2 VM however thinks its lease expires every ~30 min, fails to renew the lease in 3 tries, and disconnects. It then immediately reconnects. This continues for as long as the Mint 19.2 VM ...

Re: Create a menu category & submenus -- How?

That's one way. There is at least one other way. From the terminal cinnamon-menu-editor or in the menu-editor itself you can set it's hidden by default menu entry to be visible. It's in Preferences Hmm... Mine was visible by default, but it wasn't in Favorites (it is now!) and I didn't know the nam...

Re: Create a menu category & submenus -- How?

Damn it, I would roll a file-based menu system, but ... does Cinnamon have a DOM? How would I get advice/help on how to get started on such an endeavor?

And thanks guys. You're great.

Re: Create a menu category & submenus -- How?

Note that there are tree-based notes applications. I don't use any but there might be one that suits your fancy as an alternative to doing this in the OS menu; google will as usual find a few thousands "top ten" lists of them... A notes application would be okay for static documents, but not a mix ...

Re: Create a menu category & submenus -- How?

Some of the entries are not programs either, which would be an issue. It's really simple though: make the "tree" be an actual file-system tree under, say, ~/Interests, and then just add ~/Interests to your Nemo bookmarks -- it will then also appear under Places in the standard Cinnamon menu. Well! ...

Re: Create a menu category & submenus -- How?

You are basically wanting to abuse a program launcher as a tree-based notes application. Menu's with (web-)bookmark-support come a little closer to what you want, but if having this actually file-system based (i.e., like in Windows) and having access to it via Nemo / Places isn't enough, you'd need...

From the terminal cinnamon-menu-editor or in the menu-editor itself you can set it's hidden by default menu entry to be visible. It's in Preferences
You can also get to it via the 'Panel's context menu with some additonal clicks.

Re: Create a menu category & submenus -- How?

Here's another example. It's the 'Video' 'MPV' 'MPV keys' section of my Windows Start Menu. It's all zero-length files and shows MPV's keybindings. I need this handy menu reference so I can refresh my memory while I'm watching a movie via MPV. Otherwise, I'd have to plow through a PDF I made of the ...

Re: Create a menu category & submenus -- How?

So, now that I have your attention... There's no way to create the following menu system in Cinnamon, is there? The web-browser thing makes little sense, but FWIW, on current Cinnamon you get to the menu editor with right-click Menu button on taskbar ...
Gasp! Please, we Cinnamonites call it "panel".
... -> Configure -> Menu -> Open the menu editor.
That's one way. There is at least one other way.
