Re: GJS, in medias res

@smurfos,

I've read only a couple of paragraphs of 'http://developer.linuxmint.com/referenc ... pplet.html' and it looks like exactly what I need.

Re: GJS, in medias res

Take this with a pinch of salt, given my experience with CJS is limited to modifying existing JS for applets, deskets etc and that I don't know what your eventual use-case is, but I think if you want an 'in' to CJS your best bet is to package your scripts as a Cinnamon extension. The Cinnamon speci...

Re: GJS, in medias res

Well, howdy smurfos, You are correct. 'alert' is not of method of the global object in CJS. In a browser (HTML page or console), submitting var s="";for (var a in this) s+=this.a+" ";alert(s); fills an alert box with close stop focus blur open alert confirm prompt print postMessage captureEvents rel...

GJS, in medias res

I approach GJS this time as I approached it other times, in medias res.

Suppose I have a web browser. Suppose that web browser has a js console. I can submit

Code: Select all

alert("Hello World!")
to that js console.

How do I do the same in Cinnamon?

Re: Hide quit options? How?

PS: Oh, sorry. I didn't know you wanted me to copy the files. Oops. Now that they are there, I'll edit applets.js and comment out the section. From this comment I gather you copied all of the script files into your ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets directory. SmurfOS suggested that you copy just the ...

Re: Revitalize Mint Update? How?

@MrEen Thank you. Now that I know its name is 'mintupdate', I fired up Snaptic and discovered that it was no longer installed. When I installed it, I discovered that Virtual Box's Guest Additions were dependent and would be removed. I went ahead and installed 'mintupdate'. I assume that one of the V...

Re: Revitalize Mint Update? How?

Mint Update is not found in the Cinnamon Menu. Is Update Manager there? 'There' meaning in the Cinnamon menu? No, it's not there. Alternatively, what happens if you open a terminal window and enter mintupdate ? mark@mark-VirtualBox ~ $ mintupdate mintupdate: command not found mark@mark-VirtualBox ~...

[SOLVED] Revitalize Mint Update? How?

In 'Startup Applications', I have 'mintUpdate' ON with Delay 20.

Mint Update has not run for many months. My system and applications are getting very stale.

Mint Update is not found in the Cinnamon Menu.

What do you suggest I do to revitalize Mint Update?

With Regards, Mark.

Re: Hide quit options? How?

So the copy has worked. The file to edit is in /home/mark/.local/share/cinnamon/applets/menu@cinnamon.org/applet.js ~ in the commands is expanded to /home/mark by the shell. Yup! They're gone. Harah! Thank YOU, smurphos !! May I ask a couple of related question? Can you point me to documentation fo...

Re: Hide quit options? How?

It's empty after running the cp command? That's weird. Try this and report the output. cp -Rv /usr/share/cinnamon/applets/menu@cinnamon.org ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets ... mark@mark-VirtualBox ~ $ cp -Rv /usr/share/cinnamon/applets/menu@cinnamon.org ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets '/usr/share/c...

Re: Hide quit options? How?

You need to manually edit the applet's javascript to remove the system buttons. I've not tested this on your specific ( & very old   ) version of Cinnamon. but it should work. 1) Make a copy of the default applet to your local applet storage using the file manager or this terminal comma...

I've not tried this, but can you drag them off the menu and into a submenu of your choice?
No. I can drag other 'Favorites', but not the 'Lock screen' 'Logout' & 'Quit' buttons. They are immovable.

[SOLVED] Hide quit options? How?

Re, Cinnamon 3.0.7 The Cinnamon context menu 'Configure...' opens an 'Applets' dialog. The 'Applets' dialog displays a check-box labeled 'Show favorites and quit options'. There is no check-box for 'Show favorites but hide quit options'. Is there a way to hide the menu's quit options? With Regards, ...

Re: Newly added Menu item is no-show

Well, I fiddled with the menu and was unsuccessful at making my new 'Power OFF' button appear. Then, a few days later, it appeared and I 'moved' it into the 'Favorites' section of the menu. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to remove the default 'quit options' without removing the entire 'Favorites'...

Re: Newly added Menu item is no-show

Could you clarify please just what it is that you want to achieve. If you want to get a quick power off function use F12. I didn't know about F12. If you prefer to have this function on the panel ... I do. ... add it from Applets. There is no such existing function. I created one, but ... (read on....

Re: Newly added Menu item is no-show

kyphi is giving me alternatives, but I need fixes, not alternatives. I have other Menu buttons that either don't show up, or don't get changed when I change their settings ...for example: no matter how many times I change a button to use palemoon instead of firefox, the button doesn't get changed. I...

Re: Newly added Menu item is no-show

What am I doing wrong? Rather than going via the menu editor, you can just add a launcher to your Desktop (right click) to invoke that function but omit step 4.1. I don't put anything on the desktop. You already have a "Quit" button in your main menu as well as power off with F12 as well as the opt...

Newly added Menu item is no-show

Hi, This topic is probably better here than the Newbies forum. Step 1, I right-click the Cinnamon System Menu icon and select "Configure..." (opens "Applets" dialog). Step 2, In "Applets" dialog, I left-click "Open the menu editor" (opens "Main Menu" dialog). Step 3, In "Main Menu" dialog, right-han...
