Re: Menu Item 'Properties' broken -- will not open

Are you sure, that you marked the command (and not the menu), before you clicked on properties? I've created and revised a great number of custom launchers. The properties for the launcher will not open. In the menu editor, I select (highlight) the launcher, as I would usually do, and either click ...

Feel free to ask, where you do not find an answer. We consider no question as a dumb one. I appreciate that sentiment so much! Open the welcome screen (you find it in the menu -> preferences) and click on "Documentation". That just brings up the page that serves 'https://www.linuxmint.com/documenta...

Re: Help for Nemo 3.0.6 (?)

Have you tried entering in a terminal man nemo it is specific for nemo Hope it Helps Have you looked at that man page? It's a joke. I especially like "--geometry=GEOMETRY". There's no "there", there. I wrote a lot of code during my career. I can't imagine even approaching a project without an archi...

Menu Item 'Properties' broken -- will not open

Cinnamon Menu (r-click the panel's 'Menu' icon, choose 'Configure'): 'Applets' > 'Open the menu editor' > 'Main Menu' > 'Properties' will not open the 'Launcher Properties' dialog for a particular Item. The Item is a custom launcher that used to work. (I think that a few days ago I deleted the icon ...

Help for Nemo 3.0.6 (?)

I have problems with Nemo. I've searched for posts (here & duckduckgo) and have not found Joy. I think I will need to tinker 'under the hood' (maybe in '/home/mark/.config/nemo/desktop-metadata' or some other file that doesn't yet exist), but before I ask you fine folks a bunch of dumb questions, I ...

Re: Settings as Root

Sorry to say I sort of got lost with the second sentence... Sorry, Mr. Wharf. I was a bit confused and unclear and piled too many words in one sentence. My fault. I'll try again. I want to change root's System Settings, for example: to show hidden files. To do it, I created a custom menu launcher I...

Re: Four UI questions (especially: How do I make windows opaque?)

Whatever happened, it was not related to the theme changes you made... Well, at least I didn't panic (errr... not for long, anyway). I greatly appreciate your help. You help so many people. I have the time (I'm retired), and I'm an engineer (hardware, in Silicon Valley for 25 years), and I'd like t...

What just happened?

Whew! What a (heart-stopping) experience I just had... Austin, I copied the '/usr/share/themes/Mint-X/' folder to '~/.themes/Mint-X/', and made the color change. I then restarted Mint. It would not boot -- I gave it several minutes. I turned the computer off, then on. I was presented with some sort ...

Re: Four UI questions (especially: How do I make windows opaque?)

Then you still need to do the first thing I mentioned: "Copy the /usr/share/themes/Mint-X folder to your /home/username/.themes/ folder. " Ah! Hmmm... I must have missed it. Sorry. Should the result be '~/.themes/Mint-X/<...bla-bla-bla...>' or '~/.themes/<...bla-bla-bla...>' ? Thanks so much! I don...

Re: Status of vertical panels in Cinnamon (?)

I think no one want to add this by default, but could like to some one the idea and then add it to an specific applet. Please do! Or better: Make it a sticky setting. we have now the vertical panels... When? When are users going to see this? ...just apply one function: https://developer.gnome.org/c...

Re: 'Software Sources' '... foreign packages'

Thank you! I've completely changed my computer. I'm now running Mint 18/Cinnamon as my Host, with WinXP (without networking) as my Guest. I'm MUCH happier with both the operation of Windows and with Cinnamon. I can run my Windows & Windows programmer's editor (TextPad) just fine, and without anti-vi...

Re: Status of vertical panels in Cinnamon (?)

markfilipak: Sorry, but you are wrong. I speak about this possibility here: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/pull/4996#issuecomment-192765413 This is in fact possible and more easy that what currently was done. But of course, this solution it's not very functional and also It is devoid of aest...

Settings as Root

I occasionally need to run Terminal & Nemo as root. To do so, I've created menu launchers: 'gksu nemo' & 'gksu /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator' to make it easy. But I've run into a snag. In order to change the root's Nemo settings (to make List View sticky for all directories), I created "Settings as R...

Re: Four UI questions (especially: How do I make windows opaque?)

Hey, Austin! '~/.themes' is an empty directory. I found this: '/usr/share/themes/Mint-X/gtk-3.0/gtk-main.css' -- of course, it's owned by the root user. In it, there's a top section delimited by C-comment /* Default Color Scheme */ In that section, there's a line: @define-color theme_selected_bg_col...

Re: Keyboard: US international with dead keys issue

..."international with dead keys via AltGr" (not sure about the exact phrase as I'm using a localized system)... Thank you, grizz. I thought it had been removed from the choices because I couldn't find it. The name is "English (international AltGr dead keys)" and, because the list is sorted alphabe...

Re: Four UI questions (especially: How do I make windows opaque?)

-bump- Hey, Austin, you were going to tell me how to manually set the title bar color if I posted the color I wanted. Well, I picked http://www.color-hex.com/color/b93f0c . I've tried some fiddling '~/.config/gtk-3.0' as below, but I don't know the names of <elements> in the gtk-DOM. What's shown is...

[SOLVED] Keyboard: US international with dead keys issue

SOLUTION: Ah, I found it! "international AltGr dead keys" is NOT with the rest of the "English (US ...)" key bindings. It's further up in the list: English (India, with rupee sign) English (international AltGr dead keys) <-- This is the one I (or you) want! English (left handed Dvorak) and, dispite ...
