Re: Boot Mint 18.1 and Windows 10 on different drives

I also now know that my mainboard does not even have UEFI but a regular bios, and still Windows 10 installed an EFI bootloader while Linux Mint will install a regular bootloader. Maybe thats incompatible? Here is the Windows 10 install process https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/comme...

capturing video from VHS?

Hi, I am trying to record all my old VHS tapes. I bought a video grabber, usbtv 4-1.2:1.0: Fushicai USBTV007 Audio-Video Grabber, but somehow that does not work well. I tried using VLC, but that has some strange effects. Often it shows past frames while running. Maybe some buffering is needed? I als...

Re: Unable to enter decrypt password after installing NVIDIA drivers

What do you mean? I also noticed something even worse. If I have that passwordfield where nothing happens if I type in my password, and I press ctrl+alt+F7 or some other F Number, like switching through tty's when in linux, I arrive at a screen which actually shows what I was typing in the password ...

Re: Boot Mint 18.1 and Windows 10 on different drives

I do not have a secure boot option in my bios.

Might this be a problem of Mint? I just ran the installer again, and it does not even see the Mint 18 installation. It still claims that there is no OS.

Unable to enter decrypt password after installing NVIDIA drivers

Hi, Next issue: I installed Mint 18.1 and let the installer do an encrypted installation. After I installed the Nvidia drivers and the intel microde drivers, when the prompt to enter the decryp password while booting, apparently the cursor is not locked into field. When I type something, nothing hap...

Boot Mint 18.1 and Windows 10 on different drives

Hi, I wanted to do a clean install of Windows 10 and Mint 18.1, so I booted into the 18.1 live cd and deleted all the previous OS partitions. Then I installed Windows 10 (now on /dev/sde) and afterwards Mint 18.1. With Windows 7, the Mint installer would tell me that it found Windows 7. But now it s...

Copying to NFS share slows down system

Hello, I recently built a NAS (running on Ubuntu server 16.04) and created an NFS share for simple access to the files. On this machine here, I am running Mint 17.3 with Cinnamon. Now I noticed, whenever I copy (large) files to the NAS my Mint gets really slow until it copied the file. Especially ne...

Re: Cannot access Samba share on Mint 18 from Mint 17

Thanks,

But also with force user, mint 17 still says that the shared folder needs a password. Anonymous login is selected by default, and I can just click "ok" to access ... Is there a way to also get rid of this window?

Re: Install Linux Mint 17 to mdadm RAID array

Hi, Is the first post in this thread still valid for mint 18? Because I installed to a usb drive, and this is too slow for my taste, but I only have a raid 5 in the computer, so the only option would be to install to the raid (how can the raid be assembled before the system is booted?) or to somehow...

transfer OS to usb stick?

Hey,

I installed Mint 18 on an ssd, but soon I will need this last sata port for another drive. Is it possible to somehow just copy the installation to a usb stick to boot mint from there? Maybe simply using dd? I would rather not install it again and do all the configuration again.

Thx.

samba speed lower than scp

Hi, My Samba network is running (althoug I cant login without a user/password yet ...) and I noticed that while copying a file using scp, I get something like 70 mb/s, while copying it in nemo from the shared folder (same file of course), I only get 50 mb/s. Is that normal? Can that be increased to ...

Re: Cannot access Samba share on Mint 18 from Mint 17

Hi, Yes, it could have been helpful, but it wasn't :) To install samba, I did: sudo apt-get install samba --install-recommends and I put together a very simple config file: [global] workgroup = smb share_modes = yes [homes] comment = Home Directories browsable = no read only = no create mode = 0750 ...

Re: Driver for Intel N3150 integrated graphics?

Hi, In the meantime I found 01.org, they apparently have open source linux graphics drivers for intel graphics. However, I am not sure if they are actually working, since they officially only support ubuntu. But with a trick it appears to install fine. But when I boot up Mint 18 Cinnamon, the wallpa...
