Cannot access Samba share on Mint 18 from Mint 17

Hi, I installed a new Mint 18 Cinnamon on my new server and tried to share a drive. It apparently works, because on my other machine, running Mint 17.3, the network folder is shown in the network. But when I try to access it, I have to chose between accessing anonymously or by a user. No matter what...

Driver for Intel N3150 integrated graphics?

Hi, I bought a new computer which I want to be my NAS and my media pc. I want it to primarily run KODI to play videos and all the NAS function should run in the background. My impression was, that the Intel N3150 cpu should have enough performance for my needs. After I freshly installed Mint 17.3 Ci...

Re: No keypassx in linux mint 18

But searching for keypass in synaptic has no results. And maybe I am too paranoid, but I would rather not use third party ppa's to install software so important for my digital security. EDIT: Yeah, sorry ... I was just a little bit... well, a LOT stupid. I actually searched for key pass instead of i...

Re: SSD as slow as HDD

Are you sure the sata ports on your motherboard are sata 3? Maybe they are sata 2? Yep. Says so on the board, and if it would be sata 2, my line above would not say 6 Gb/s, and Windows could not give me >500 mb/s, AND 100 mb/s would be still to slow for sata 2, which would yield something like 300 ...

Re: SSD as slow as HDD

Hi, No, discard was not in, but it also makes no difference. Here is the current fstab, still getting around 100 mb/s writing speed. # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass> /dev/mapper/mint--vg-root / ext4 discard,noatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1 All those optimization threads seem...

Re: SSD as slow as HDD

I really start to think that is some linux error ... I've put in a new ssd, crucial bx200 480gb. Bonnie++ and dd stll give me about 90~100 mb/s in writing speed. hdparm -t gives me around 600 mb/s reading speed. Fhe funny thing is, if I format it as NTFS in Windows 7 and benchmark it with crystaldis...

SSD as slow as HDD

Hi, I run Mint 17.2 cinnamon, it is installed on an old ADATA 120 GB SSD, which should give around 500mb/s in write and read speed. I used bonnie++ to check it... it was terrible. around 90 mb/s writing and 200 mb/s in reading. I read a bit around and read about ahci. It was disabled on my Gigabyte ...

Trouble mounting all-inkl.com webdisk

Hello, I have an account with the webhoster all-inkl.com and they offer an online disk. I created a user and tried to mount it. They dont offer help for linux, but I found a webpage which suggests to mount it this way: sudo mount -t cifs //xxx.kasserver.com/xxx /mnt/webdisk -o fsc,uid=1000,gid=1000,...

Thanks!

Than I'll stick to the Open Source driver ... seems to run fine enough. The most graphics it will have to do is flash videos ... :)

Cinnamon crashes after installing fglrx

Hi, I have a machine with an intel Q6600, 8 GB ram and an ATI Radeon HD 3870, running Mint 17.1. Mostly fresh install. Plain and simple problem: When I install fglrx, the ati driver (no matter if it is from synaptic or downloaded drivers from ati itself), cinnamon always crashes to fallback mode ......

Re: Lenovo Z50 Nvidia issues

I am trying to get bumblebee running, and when I type bumblebeed, it says "module nvidia-331 not found", althoug the driver manager says I am using it.

Any ideas?

Lenovo Z50 Nvidia issues

Hi, I have a Lenovo Z50, it uses a combination of Intel and Nvidia 650 graphics. I tried to play kerbal space program on Linux 17.1 Cinnemon, and its really slow. Then I checked drivers and stuff. When I look into the driver manager, it says that nvidia 331 is in use, but if I do a lsmod | grep vide...

Re: 17.1 Cinnamon low performance on not too old hardware

Same effect ... curiously, I removed everything nvidia related, and now it seems to run much smoother. Or maybe its because I upgraded to kernel 3.19 in the meantime ....

17.1 Cinnamon low performance on not too old hardware

Hi, I have a pc with an Intel Q6600, 8 GB of ram and an Nvidia 8600 GT. I installed Mint 17.1 with Cinnamon and I do notice quite a few performance drops. Most noteably when something is running in the background, like a youtube video or a lot of terminal output. Then I can really feel that the refr...
