Re: Best way to clean up my computer?

if you have to ask you should not attempt to clean/delete any files/folders. cleaning/maintaining in linux is more like art than maintenance. the fact that you did not know or fix the 6GB unused means you need to learn some file structure and look under the hood long enough to learn something every...

Re: Best way to clean up my computer?

Is it best to have everything on one partition or keep the partitions as they are? You've poked a wasp nest there.... Opinions vary widely. Personally, I consider a separate /home partition to be a useless complication: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/faq-2.html#ID2 (item 2) Thank...

Re: Best way to clean up my computer?

Thanks for the replies, the reason I have 3 partitions was so that it was easier to upgrade back when you had to install with every upgrade. I suppose nowadays with 3 releases before a brand new version that might not be necessary? Is it best to have everything on one partition or keep the partition...

Best way to clean up my computer?

Hi all, Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon 64bit. I upgraded to Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon 64bit as soon as it came out, as I have always done but my system has a few issues that I think a reinstall would be best to fix. Currently my Firefox and Thunderbird profiles are messed up and won't load. I still get the...

Re: Auto mount Google Drive on startup

Hi gibbs1984, Not sure how you can auto mount Google Drive using the Gnome Online Accounts method, but there are other options (google-drive-ocamlfuse, etc...) that can auto mount your Google Drive. I use the superb "InSync" Google Drive client which automatically connects when it is running. * Mou...

Auto mount Google Drive on startup

Hi all, Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon. I have Google Drive mounted on Nemo and accessing it works very well but the only issue (not really an issue as such) is that Google Drive doesn't auto mount when my computer boots up. Instead I have to click on the bookmark in Nemo to connect to Google Drive (I kno...

Been nearly 2 weeks now and I haven't had the crackling noise once since doing this fix.

Re: Opening certain sites leads to crackling on audio

Thanks MrEen,

I've done what you've said, the crackling sound was only random (at least once a week though) so I'll keep this thread updated with whether it happens again or not within a few weeks.

Re: Opening certain sites leads to crackling on audio

Wow, didn't think I'd see someone else with this issue, I have it too but I just thought it was my extremely old speakers playing up, will be getting some new ones soon but maybe it's not the speakers and this issue will persist with new speakers. Sorry, don't know how to fix the issue apart from re...

Re: individual file selection

My mum uses one click file opening on her Mint Cinnamon laptop and when setting it up for her I had to get used to it, I just held down the CTRL button and then left clicked on the file/folder that I wanted to select, not sure if this is the best or easiest way but it worked perfectly well for me.

Re: Remove an icon from development menu

If you Right Click on the Menu in the bottom left hand corner, then select Configure you will open up the configuration of the Start Menu. I'm at work on my Windows work computer so I can't remember exactly the options but there should be a menu editor in there somewhere. When you go into the menu e...

Re: Thunderbird does not support Lightening now

Just to clarify too, I sent an email from Thunderbird to my own Gmail and it received it fine. I then created a calendar event on my phone in the Calendar app against my Gmail email address and sync'd it, it then appeared in Thunderbird. In Thunderbird I then deleted the event and sync'd, it then di...

Re: Thunderbird does not support Lightening now

The calendar in Thunderbird works fine for me after following the instructions in this thread.

I ran:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install xul-ext-lightning
Then I disabled the Lightning add-on in Thunderbird and then restarted Thunderbird.

My calendar is working fine:

Re: Steam now lets you play Windows games on Linux

Just as I post that I look at Xenopeek's netlify link and it looks to be a known issue :D

Keeping the game installed incase there's a fix soon, do we know how often they're fixing these issues as I assume there's thousands of games that need little fixes?

Re: Steam now lets you play Windows games on Linux

On the video I watched he says you need as a minimum the nvidia 396.51 drivers, I'm only running 390.48 which I assume is the latest one in Mint. I've looked on the nvidia website and the latest version is 390.87. So where did they get 396.51 drivers from? I only have Call of Duty: Black Ops as a Wi...

Re: Terrible FPS on Counter Strike:GO

There's been a few updates lately and had one today for the microcode and I think there was a driver one the other day, back up to 60fps which at least makes the game playable, still not the same level it was before but has been smooth enough.

Re: Terrible FPS on Counter Strike:GO

Thanks both for your replies, VSync was already off and so was motion blur. I'm currently on kernel 4.15.0-30-generic, can't remember what kernel I was on with Linux Mint 18, I had a big clean out of all my kernels just after installing Mint 19 so I only have 4.15.0.x installed, was the latest one t...

Terrible FPS on Counter Strike:GO

Hi, Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon 64bit. On Linux Mint 18.x I always got FPS over 100 even with all the video settings on high but since installing Linux Mint 19 I can't get FPS over 50 even with all the video settings on low. It make the game near on impossible to play. I have a NVIDIA Corporation GP107 [...

Nope, stopped working again. Think I might start looking for another keyboard but if it is a software issue will I have this issue with another keyboard?

Re: Intermittent Wireless Keyboard

On the possibility of a recent update as cause, try booting from Live CD/Flash and see if the problem persists. Yeah good thinking, tried the Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon LiveCD and the keyboard wasn't working, changed the batteries again and it didn't work so was ready to give up, started pressing a few...
