Re: i386 build

There are a few reasons that I've read about to install a 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine - older drivers is one.

I suggest installing, or at least testing, the 64 bit version on your 64 bit machine. This wikipedia article might help >>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit_computing

Re: So i have Linux Mint installed on external HDD

so, does running OS from external HDD damages it? Not in my case - I install different Linux versions using my external USB2 hard drive. It's a bit slower than when running from an internal drive but totally functional! Possibly consider booting live dvd - usb flash drive to do some of your experim...

Re: Mint,Ubuntu,Win 7 triple boot problems!

I have successfully installed Linux Mint onto a USB external hard drive which I found faster than installing the entire OS onto a flash drive.
I also have a tripple boot HP tower, however the 'second' drive is internal

I suggest booting to the drive where grub2 is installed and execute from a terminal

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
I have a tripple boot on my HP tower and Grub2 enables me to boot any of the 3 OSes installed :)

Re: Install Mint with SD Card

Finding a direct replacement hard drive can be expensive - I suggest considering an external USB hard drive to install a Linux OS.
What are the symptoms of the hard drive not functioning? Did you attempt to install Mint from a live dvd?

Excellent advice so far.....#1Pick a project, #2pick a language appropriate for the project. #3Write, write, write. Finish .... go back to #1

Reading is important, but you can get analysis paralysis :) by reading too much ......... you've got to practice

Sorry about the other post - it seems that Outlook's proprietary format prevents TB from importing. Re: no internet

What Nomko is trying to explain to you is 'Windows is preventing Mint from connecting to the Internet' His post explained (quite clearly I must say) that you need to release the Windows IP lock prior to shutting down Windows and booting Mint. How did you install Mint? Please be descriptive - no 1 li...

Re: TRIPLE BOOT

Please do not just follow this example as it might not be appropriate for Vista & XP, but use as a springboard for searching. I've noticed that when I boot Win 7 (installed on first hd) from Grub2 (installed on second hd) changes mad to Win 7 (for instance virtual memory) are not saved. I know ...

Re: newbie with a dell inspiron 9400

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that came with Win XP when new. It became so sluggish that I blew XP away and successfully installed Ubuntu 12.10, 13.04, Mint 14.
All 3 OSes run perfectly and MUCH faster than XP
