Re: menuentry "Linux Mint 14 MATE 64-bit, 3.5.0-17-generic (

I have Installed Linux Mint 13 Mate 64bit alongside Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon 64bit to replace Linux Mint 14 Mate 64bit. Now I get entries related to the old OS. I have installed Grub-customizer and removed them. But there are other entries that don't show up in Grub Customizer and still appear on tth...

Ubuntu have dumped their rolling release idea, so it won't affect MInt at all. Re: Linux not worth it?

Are you sure it's Libre / Open Office that's not compliant rather than MS Office refusing to play ball with anything else? Not knowing the exact adoption rate I'll take a stab 85% business using M$ Office - So what motivation does M$ have to be compliant with anything except itself? - and that does...

Upgrade / Rolling Release ?

I'm curious how Mint's releases will be affected by Ubuntu's rolling release strategy? I just recently installed Mint 14 Cinnamon on two machines and find it quite pleasing and a bit more polished than Ubuntu. I also like the physical layout of the screen using Cinnamon so much so that I installed C...

Re: Just Wanted to Say Hello!

That's about it. I've heard of Linux for a very long time...just never used it. With the release of Windows 8, and Office 2013 only good for one machine, with out purchasing an additional $99.99 for Office 365...or some nonsense, I am now looking into Linux. I believe Microsoft has hit an all new l...

Re: HELP deleted lots of files!!

Hi so I did something incredibly stupid without thinking about its consequences. I used Clamtk to scan all of my directories and it turned out i had several hundred threats so I thought I would just delete them all... Now my Windows files have been messed up especially those from my Adobe programs....

Re: Please give me decent reason to stick with Linux

I suspect that you need to evaluate for yourself why you wanted to switch from Windows. Linux Mint is pretty easy to learn IF there's proper motivation; but just because you've heard decent things about something is certainly not a sufficient reason to switch. If you're looking for freedom then ther...

Re: Do I need a SWAP file or partition? (8GB RAM)

I am wondering if I need one or not. I have never seen my RAM usage go over 3GB. Though I haven't done anything intensive like encoding or gaming. I imagine swapfiles/partitions are for the days of 2gb ram being a large amount? What other benefit could I have from a swapfile? Could I make an 8gb sw...

Re: Help! New Mint install with LOTS of problems!!

Well I switched the monitors, it seems to work just fine on one monitor. Could the problem be it is in "laptop-mode"? That would explain why my only display is labeled as "laptop"..... IF this is so, how would you get out of laptop mode? Hopefully someone more experienced with d...

Re: Help! New Mint install with LOTS of problems!!

No, I have a GTX 550Ti GPU. And I tried to install some sort of driver for it, but it made no difference. Not a real solution, but rather a step .. disconnect one of the 2 monitors to see if you can minimally configure Mint! Okay, it works PERFECT with one screen, exactly how I want it. Cinnamon is...

Re: How do I remove icons from the tray?

If I right click I get only Launch and Properties. Iif it's relevant I am running Cinnamon 64bit in a Virtual Box. If possible I'd like to align those icon next to the Mint and Desktop icons to the left, but when I pull them to the left they don't stay there. I'd like something that's similar to wh...

Re: Importing Thunderbird emails from XP

Hello, Back in 2011 this exchange came up. I'm now hoping to make just the same move from XP to Mint. As well as the address book, we have thousands of emails stored on our XP machine which we've downloaded into Thunderbird there, so we need to move both, without risk of losing access to them. Is t...
