Re: default partitioning scheme

I think it has something to do that you can only have 4 primary partitions. You need to setup your linux partitions as extended partitions in that case. Here you can see how to do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a95iWS0VEAA Also google is your friend to find more info on this, I typed in "linux ...

Some characters not showing up in konsole

Before installing, I changed to BE keyboard layout on the live image to make sure the password would be correct, and during install I also chose the BE keyboard layout. I find it strange that when I log into a text console with ctrl=alt-F1 everything works fine, but in a normal gui boot into kde it ...

Some characters not showing up in konsole

After installing and customising Mint17 kde (adding packages, install printer driver, making some cosmetic changes, the things I usually do after installing a new release) I noticed that at some point my password was not recognised anymore when starting synaptics package manager. I then tried to ins...

Re: mint deb files

I found how to run it marc@bgc:/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintBackup$ python mintBackup.py (process:3669): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale. So far no problem, I clicked on backup your software selection and opened the dropdown menu to select a directory When ...

Re: mint deb files

Thanks, I found the mintbackup package and installed it with gdebi. There were no complaints about missing dependencies, the program is in the launch menu, but unfortunately it does not work. When I start it sits in the panel for a few seconds and dissappears, so I guess there are some dependencies ...

After the install, I add a number of packets and now - it does not shut down - it does not accept my passwd for sudo So I installed Kubuntu 14.04, fully customised is and it works just fine. I would like to use some specific mint software lik...

Re: Aren't we lucky!

Indeed, I fully agree with this. That is the reason why I switched to linux some years ago. I give some PC support to family, and when I see how much time you need to spend on making their PCs usable again after they collected loads of garbage, I am always happy I don't have that kind of problems my...

Re: default partitioning scheme

Hi JRG, I totally agree with your point of view. I also work in ICT (telephone exchanges, and they all run on Linux) and I am the local PC helpdesk for family. I use Windows 7 for work, and linux desktop at home (dual boot windows/linux on my work laptop) I always use the 3 partition shema on my lin...

Re: Lock down a computer for Public use. Using Linux Mint 16

- In BIOS change the boot settings to boot from the HD only to prevent people to boot from a live CD/DVD/USB. - Restrict physical access to the PCs and put a password on the BIOS, to prevent people changing boot options. - Remove the "start in recovery mode" from the boot menu, in this mode you get ...

Re: Mapen NAS niet zichtbaar in o.a. VLC

Re: What with warranty when replacing W$ by linux

I just got the official reply from MSI. Warranty on HW is in no way affected when you install another OS, so if some HW breaks, it will still be repaired under warranty. but of course they will not give support on the other OS and associated SW. I you remove the original OS, you are required to make...
