Re: Need hibernate in Mint16 Xfce

Hi, I could not hibernate my pc either. It seems to be disabled in mint. To enable it, I did this (I use kde, kate is a kde txt editor, replace it by the xfce txt editor) http://www.howtogeek.com/113923/how-to-re-enable-hibernate-in-ubuntu-12.04/ - test if hibernation works via following command sud...

Howto enable hibernate in mint 16

Hi, After installing mint16 KDE, I discovered that hibernation did not work. Instead of hibernating, the screen was locked. This is due to a wrong policikit file. The mint devs probably did this willingly because on some hardware hibernation does not work well. So here is how to enable hibernation -...

Request to include Pipelight in the repos

Altough Mint is already good on codec installs by default, it would be handy to also include Pipelight in the repos and also standard on the install medium. Pipeline allows to view Microsoft Silverlight content in your browser, for example watching tv on your pc and using video on demand services. I...

Re: KDE autostart

Thanks for the reply, but it is a bit more complex. In Autostart and session management I don't see what is stored for the current session I like the way things are now, I just want to prevent nemo and one instance of document manager to autostart. What happens now is that document manager auto star...

KDE autostart

Each time I start mint KDE, the system automatically starts a number of applications (firefox, 3 x document viewer each with different documents, nemo, yakuake). Can anyone tell me where linux stores the list of applications it automatically starts ? I already looked in /home/marc/.kde/Autostart /hom...

Re: unable to change screen brightness on HP8570p

Hi, I indeed misunderstood your instructions. When you told me to info a line, I thought you ment comment it out. I now tried replacing my line 6 one by one with the lines you told me, followed by sudo update-grub and sudo reboot , but no luck. This one threw an error when doing upgrade-grub GRUB_CM...

Re: default partitioning scheme

This is a very good idea, probably because I always install thing like this myself. It would save me the trouble of going into the manual partitioning menu. Not being a sw developper myself  , unfortunately my only contribution is to say YES GO FOR IT as it will make life even more easy for so...

Re: unable to change screen brightness on HP8570p

Hi tdockery97, Thanks for the info on mint 15 that will soon be released, it will be a nice birthday present as it is nearly my birthday  (26 may). Also nice to hear that mint is taking the safe road, avoiding all kinds of pittfalls by not allways implementing the latest and the greatest, and p...

Re: unable to change screen brightness on HP8570p

Well I have no boot problem if I stay on 3.5.0-17 kernel, so no problem there, I just wondered why the upgrade manager tells me everything is up to date while there are more recent kernels in the repo. Perhaps it is because the newer kernels are incompatible with the graphics drivers ?? What bothers...

Re: unable to change screen brightness on HP8570p

Some additional info
Kernel version is 3.5.0-17 according to the mint updater this is the latest version, but in synaptic I see more recent kernels.
When I install the latest kernel, the graphical display mgr does not start and the screen constantly flickers.

unable to change screen brightness on HP8570p

Hi, I use mint 14 on a HP8570p laptop. and I am unable to change the screen brightness with the FN F9/F10 keys. When I use the keys, on the screen there is a popup showing me the screen brightness percentage. I can change it from min to max, the indicator changes, but the brightness does not. I have...

Re: Change default file manager

Hi Karl,

Thanks for the clear answer with the screenshots.
I was used to KDE where I know where to find a lot of settings and about everything is configurable.
I'll have to find my way in the Cinamon settings, but at first sight, it seems Cinamon is less configurable than KDE.

Best rgds,

Marc

Change default file manager

Hi, I have been a long time Kubuntu user and now discovered mint, and have used it for a month or two, and I like it a lot. The only thing I would like to change is the file manager, I am used to the 2 pane file manager Krusader. Can someone let me know where in Cinnamon settings I can change the fi...
