Google Drive for Linux

Today I checked the Google Drive site for a linux native app being too poor to pay for Insync and wanting better than Grive and found the following statement on https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive/?hl=en "Running Linux? Stay tuned - Drive for Linux isn't ready just yet." That is hopeful, it gives ...

Re: Backup of one hard drive to another

I do what you do almost exactly what you do. I use Deja-Dup downloadable from the Software Manager. I use this to daily copy the Home Folder, not the entire disk. I find it is easy to setup and forget. It takes a while during the 1st run as you would expect, but it does it's work very well. I have n...

Re: update to Qiana

If you Run Mint Backup tool to do your Backup of /Home, you can also afterwards do the Software list backup. Then restore both. Any software you installed by the Software Manager will then be restored along with the settings from the /Home folder. Anything to you downloaded or obtained from a PPA wi...

Re: Firefox 29 (Australis) rocks !!!!

I had been a long time user of Firefox in Mint 14 to 16 and Windows before that. I use 4 pinned tabs, 3 extensions only, Last Pass, SpeedDial and Adblock Plus. For a very long time that was just what I needed. I delved into chromium and then chrome and saw I could almost emulate the same setup there...

Re: Introduction of FastStone Image Viewer software to Linux

I faced exactly your dilema. I settled on XnViewMP. In linux it does have a couple of known bugs in v 0.64 (latest at time of post) but that in conjunction with GIMP is my grahics setup of choice.

Hope this helps.

Re: What are the Best alternatives to easyPHP and Dreamweave

Sadly I do not use either of these program types, but I do think I can point you to a good place to look,

Try http://alternativeto.net/ Search for Dreamweaver and filter for Linux.

Hope this is useful

I will make it easy for you too, Yes, they all work on Mint Cinnamon, in almost every application I use.

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

I came to linux for 2 reasons. Firstly, I was using Vista, when 7 came along I just didn't have the cash to upgrade. Also, I became increasingly fed up with having to shell out on Kaspersky and dealing with all sorts on problems. Whilst I have never had a virus, or infected file, I could feel a kind...

MintBackup - Update 17/01/14

I was just notified of a small update to MintBackup. It was from ver 2.1.2 to 2.1.3, so a minor change - but there is no indication of what.
I checked but there was no Changelog, can anyone advise what the changes were, then I can decide if this level 3 update is good for my system or not.

Re: Free Space appearing in Hard Drives

My work machine installed in the same manner does not have the free space. But another portable HD does. All very weird. RKhunter finds nothing untoward. I can delete the partitions and reformat and the free space goes away. So to be certain that I have no nasties floating around I think I will do j...

Free Space appearing in Hard Drives

I have installed Linux 16 Cinnamon, it is running fine and I am very happy. Previously with Linux 15 Cinnamon, I had formatted two external USB drives to the fullest extent in to a single partition on each drive. One is 500gb and the other is 2tb - both are used for backup purposes. I used the Disks...

Whilst I am a fan of the existing site and structure. I am aware how phpBB is under constant attack from the nasties of this world. I like the AskLibreOffice - http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/questions/

It took me time to get to grips with it, but now I am a big fan.

Re: Multimedia library manager (FOSS)

I was a Monkeymedia user prior to Linux too. However, I do not create and view video files very often. So for Music, the best replacement I found which had the tagging, cover art download and the bells and whistles of MM, I use Guaydeque. I have a setup which almost precisely mimics MM. But of cours...

Re: Touchpad Area extends on to Buttons

Thanks for all this, you solved my problem. Appologies for the delay, I was called in to hospital for a minor procedure and only now had time to handle this. But I confirm the work you did does make the changes I need.
Many thanks indeed.

Touchpad Area extends on to Buttons

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 with a Synaptics Touchpad running Mint Cinnamon 15 The pad and mouse work. But on the Touchpad the sensitive area extends down over the two buttons. So, for example, if I click and hold the left button to grab a window, moving the window with another finger in the touch zon...

I know my suggestion is not a VNC/Client and Server but have you thought of trying Teamviewer. There is a Linux ready veraion which although it is a WINE wrapped program, works extremely well.

Re: Copying to Memory Stick Doesn't Complete!

I have noted (and I think there are other posts) that copying files to and from drives, sticks or HD's, can and does fail in Mint at unpredictable moments. I am using the standard File Manger Nemo, I cannot copy the whole of the Home folder to a USB HD, it will run fune for a period and then stop wi...
