Re: Old Dell Dimension 4550 and Mint 15 - lagging in Xorg

Old hardware is old hardware, though. I think I've finally met the limit in Linux for this desktop, A Emachine 3507 I dug out of a dumpster and made into a Media Center for my Motorcycle shop. http://antix.freeforums.org/adventures-with-free-emachine-model-w3507-t3209.html Crunchbang is nice also. ...

Re: Shutdown gives restart

Intermittent problems can be hard to isolate.

Code: Select all

sudo shutdown -h now
Try that for a few days in terminal to shut down and see if the problem repeats itself.

Re: burn a movie from a flash drive to a DVD

Is the file on the flash drive in .iso format. I use Braserio to burn the movie. To convert the file on usb to iso. I use DeVeDe which is in Synaptic Package Manager. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsygpheHZUA Edit: I found Sony and Philips DVD +R disks work OK in my newer dvdplayer. Memorex DVD +R...

Re: Thinkpad T400 - Linux Mint - system freezes

Well, I don't see anything amiss via inxi graphics or inxi ram readout. top readout looks ok also. The problem is that the system freezes up. Initially everything runs really slow - the cursor moves slowly and is jumpy (whether I use the trackpad, trackpoint or a USB mouse). If I'm writing a documen...

Run top or htop in terminal and see what is hogging the ram and cpu. Post a inxi -F readout also so members can see what you are running for sure. example: $ inxi -Fxz System: Host: biker Kernel: 3.5.0-17-generic x86_64 (64 bit, gcc: 4.7.2) Desktop: MATE 1.4.2 Distro: Linux Mint 14 Nadia Machine: Mo...
