Re: Mint Installer needs inmprovements

Personally I prefer to set the bare minimum options and then let the installation continue whilst I have a coffee or get on with something else, but choosing which apps to install/not bother with by allowing users to untick unwanted ones from a list may be useful I think, and also help cut down on ...

Re: possible a a lite version of LM

I think that would be great to have a version with only the programs you want but I doubt that it will happen. Another way would be for you to choose which programs you want at instalation with the first choice the full version and if you don't want that then you would have be able to select what yo...

Thunderbird 24.1.1 [Solved]

I just updated Thunderbird to 24.1.1 and now I have lost my Calendar with all my settings for it. Is there a way to revert back to my previous Thunderbird or is there something else I should do?
Thanks for any help.

Hello! I'm a long time Mac user who just made the switch to Linux last week. I'm crazy impressed with Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon, and have enjoyed using it as my main desktop environment so far. I look forward to discovering ways I can contribute this amazing community! Thanks! -Tidfisk Take a look her...

Re: Is This at all Possible?

On your computer enter this line in /etc/exports. /media/shared 192.168.1.0/24(rw,no_subtree_check,async,no_root_squash) Change the directory name /media/shared to the one you want to use - I'm guessing /backup/Links :?: I want to make it /backup if that is OK. I think I'll have to edit my fstab an...

Re: Is This at all Possible?

Distro-Don, nfs-kernel-server and nfs-common will allow you to mount a remote volume and copy, rsync files. As an example: mount -t nfs, defaults 192.168.1.101:/media/vgshared /mnt/server/vgshared mounts the exported folder /media/vgshared to the local folder /mnt/server/vgshared. Good luck  I...

Re: Is This at all Possible?

Ok, easy enough. Install openssh-server on each machine and make sure you aren't blocking connections through your firewall. If you can ssh to your wife's machine and vice versa, you should be fine. I installed openssh-server on both computers but I don't know how to ssh to our machines. Store the ...

Re: Is This at all Possible?

Makes sense, and it is doable, but how are you currently backing up your data? We backup to our own BACKUP sectors. This is run by cron every hour on the hour #! /bin/bash # LinksBack.sh rsync -Cavz /archives/Links/ /backup/Links #EOF This is run by cron every Sunday at 23:05 #! /bin/bash # DateLin...

Re: Home partition question

For years I always installed /home on its own partition and whenever I installed a newer version or a different distribution of Linux I used, without formatting, the /home partition. This worked fine sometimes but other times it didn't work well at all so I tried something new. I have a 128GB SSH as...

What stuff do you uninstall after installation?

The problem with your suggestion is that not all Mint users would want the apps you list. I, for one never use any of the four and would need to go to the extra effort of uninstalling all four along with the stuff I uninstall now. Most people who make suggestions about how to make Mint better reall...

When you upgrade to Firefox 32 you will lose the ability to use Google for some reason. If there is a way to get Google back, I would like to do it.

I never use any eye-candy! I don't like animated things at all. Is there a way I can stop all animations and smileys in this forum? There seems to be way to many of them.

This is a great idea. I think that we might want to have a choice on other things too. What do others think?
