Re: LMDE to become main Mint edition?

It seems that Linux Mint Debain Edition is going to become the main edition of Linux Mint in some time along with Linux Mint Ubuntu Edition. It seems that there would be two main editions of Linux Mint in the near future 1- Linux Mint (Debian) and 2- Linux Mint (Ubuntu). Linux Mint won't leave thei...

Re: MATE 1.8 and LMDE

I have MATE 1.8.0 on LM17 and MATE 1.6.1 on LMDE. I prefer 1.6.1. I like the way the Panel is setup to double up what is running when the Panel properties are increased to 36 pixels. If there are any other changes in 1.8.0, I haven't seen them yet.

Re: Forum Suggestion: "liking" individual posts

Unfortunately, too many people don't have similar restraint. This idea was already dismissed on the official Ubuntu Forums, for similar reasons to which I've stated. That's a shame. Curious, too, because I think of this forum as more mature than some of the others that the feature works famously on...

Re: I think im infected

You didn't need to uninstall, as mentioned above, popup blocker turned on, adblock plus FF add-on, and noscript add-on should pretty much stop any bogies - you can run clam AV on your system, plus other app's like rkhunter etc etc, read up on them first as there can be false positives and such, odd...

Re: Can we please have a Linux Mint bare bones release?

Can we please have a bare bones release? I can then start quietly building up my software bundle from scratch. Here you are! Enjoy! you're welcome of course. Yes, we could make a long list of distros which come in smaller formats - but that does not help the person who wants Linux Mint in a differe...

Re: A plea about passwords

I fall into the grandparent age group and look at the age thing as a red herring. If a user of any age can't deal with their own passwords then they need real help beyond installing the an OS. To me the age thing falls into the "Linux will never grow unless..." and "not for normal people lines", li...

Re: A plea about passwords

The password is always, and I mean always , going to be 1234. How is that more secure? It may as well not be there. So what if Granny can go tinkering with the innards, if the system is properly set up to do what she wants in the first place she won't ever be interested in doing that. Are you sayin...

BTW: KeePass is an invaluable tool if you don't like having too many passwords. Especially if you have close to a hundred like me, lol.
That is why the password should be changed every now and then.

Re: A plea about passwords

I guess the philosophical issue I have is the user already has a password for things like email and cloud, this should be enough in a well designed system. The point I am trying to make it is may not be the user who is trying to do some admin task, it may be their son, daughter, or a friend. I gues...

Why can't they just replace that ugly bootsplash :( Can you tdockery97 talk to them about this :D Beauty and stuff like this is highly subjective. For example, and I know I'm not the only one, I think that your splash boots are absolutely ugly and I would never use them nor would I see them include...

Re: Question re LMDE from Info page

We don't want beginner to use it,get into trouble, break everything, and then leave Linux thinking it's a crap and that it doesn't work. That would be stupid. And we would lost so much time helping desperate users that could have made a better choice if they had been warned properly. LMDE is not fo...

Re: Question re LMDE from Info page

I beg to differ. when LMDE got into trouble we'll need to use those tools to fix it. mint main version also easier to maintain and more stable compared to LMDE. if anyone without linux experience want to migrate from XP, IMO mint main version is the best choice for them. LMDE is for a lil bit more ...

Re: Clem, some food for thought.

I am new to the Mint community, but I have decided to use LMDE as my base for me and customers. Looking back on the history of Mint, I understand the Ubuntu base. Yet now that Mint has evolved and matured, and Cinnamon and Mate have become popular even outside Mint, I wonder why LMDE does not becom...

Re: LMDE 201403 32Bit Install - Download Win - Yellow Bar

I've just installed LMDE 201403 (32 Bit) from the Burned ISO file. After getting everything configured and set up, I've noticed that when I have the Download Window Open, there is a Yellow Bar (Window) Open on the top of the regular Window. Has anyone else noticed this Anomaly/(BUG)? There are no o...

Re: Why so many preinstalled apps?

I'm sure that the Mint people researched what programs that users are likely to want in their system and took the effort to include them. Then you come along and complain that they're even there... sheesh ;). You can always go to Software Manager, view the installed and uninstall them. I would rath...
