Everything goes, but the bulk rename features works as the simple one from within the menu, or with the [F2] shortcut, not just from the context menu :)

Re: Nemo's new bulk rename feature

I can't follow what your saying on that link about caveats/problems, I just went into a folder with a load of pics I wanted to rename, selected them and the changes I wanted to make to the file name and it just worked, I'll stick with that, it just seems easier to me, I only ever really rename batc...

Re: Is there any way to disable middle mouse button paste?

Never mind, get rather used to middle click: it’s the fastest way to transfer contents, I really do love it :)

Re: Is there any way to disable middle mouse button paste?

I'm not sure what you mean by that. I thought all GNOME based operating systems have it so that clicking the middle button is the equivalent of using ctrl + v by default. Also I was looking for a more general solution to disable ctrl+v being embedded into the middle mouse button rather than having ...

Re: Nemo's new bulk rename feature

It’s not exactly a “new” feature, as it has been around since LM 17. It’s still a bit buggy, and needs manual configuration, though

See the tutorial “Some Help With Nemo’s Bulk Renaming”.

Re: File roller and existing files issue

In my system Docky not only produces a "bluetooth" icon in stead of a "system settings" icon - it is the "bluetooth", even if it on the screen is "system settings". So if I make the "bluetooth" sticky in Docky and close "system settings" and the open the "bluetooth" icon - I will get presented with...

Re: How to Get Nemo to Remember Column Widths?

Maybe Microsoft picked up some ideas from it, considering the mess they are now committed to making of Windows - pure suicidal. They surely have. I concede the concept has some merits for tablets and smart phones, but both without a touchscreen and with a normal keyboard, it’s a nightmare. As far a...

Re: How to Get Nemo to Remember Column Widths?

It’s just the fact that Cinnamon incl. Nemo is built upon Gnome technology, just because Gnome 3 took the direction of disabling more and more features, although starting from a high level of ergonomics in Gnome 2 (the basis of MATE and its Caja, for the matter). As you’ve maybe heard it, this was t...

Re: How to Get Nemo to Remember Column Widths?

Yeap. But it’s a big chance for us all, that Nemo’s few developers do their best to try to keep alive time-proven features while Gnome tends to bury them one after another

This is a long-standing issue in Nemo. See list view column width not remembered for an explanation.

Re: Bug Nemo\Cinnamon? - Please Help Test This

Quite a few times over the last couple of days when I've double-clicked on a link to the internet on the desktop, or listed in a Nemo window, I've had Nemo instantly shutdown all open file manager windows and all icons (not just hyperlinks) on the desktop just disappear. At first I thought the only...

Re: Prevent "Link to" Being Prefixed to Shortcuts?

There is no way I'd run a Windows computer with anything beyond Windows 7 - and I can't say I'm happy even with that now that there are reports that Microsoft have started back-porting some of the privacy busting features from Win 10 to be installed on Win 7 via 'updates'. This can’t happen to me, ...

Re: File roller and existing files issue

Another minor bug has to do with "Docky" and "system settings". This has been filed some time ago on launchpad, but it doesn't seem to get fixed. (Not filed by me, and the workaround described there doesn't work for me.) … My guess is that is has to do with Cinnamon and Docky at the same time - mos...

This is an old problem with an easy fix, see Docky: 1) Power Unplugged for how to do that.

Re: multiple instances of docky

There is a reason for Docky to open in multiple instances for sure, but I don’t know which one

It’s even possible that you configured it to do so. Anyway, you could try to restrain it to a single instance.

If you want to see or change the displayed names, check this monstrosity of a file: /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml Yes, XML is a monstrous file format itself — it’s a genuine Microsoft one :) And no, there is nothing monstrous with the contents of that file, since it contains ALL the ...

Re: Mint vs Ubuntu - Why Mint?

@MartyMint : I was talking about derived distros, not about desktop environments. Unity ignited a lot of hatred inside the Ubuntu community itself, which certainly increased the popularity of the more conservative Mint DEs. But such business politics  don’t serve Canonical either, so let b...

3) System Settings Icon

By the way, Docky has in Cinnamon the disagreeable tendency to display any settings window with the Bluetooth icon. This can be easily remedied by editing a single file as follows: gedit ~/.local/share/applications/cinnamon-bluetooth-properties.desktop Therein, you should change the line beginning w...

2) Single Instance

In some circumstances, it can happen to Docky to become detached from the display, e.g. when Cinnamon is forced to restart after a freeze. In such a case, there are two possibilities: either Docky will present multiple, overlapping instances, or it will show none, if a new one cannot be started. Bot...

1) Power Unplugged

If your computer is a mobile one, the first thing you should make is to prevent Docky from quitting when AC power is disconnected. This can be done with a Power Manager script. So, make it up with the following commands: sudo mkdir --parents /etc/pm/power.d/ sudo touch /etc/pm/power.d/20_docky sudo ...
