Re: Nemo very slow to move files

It seems that the reboot has cured, however temporarily, the problem. I just moved some files around and they went right away. There is one possible explanation, which comes into my mind: Wrong ownership of files or folders. If files have to get copied, all needed permission is the right to read the...

Re: Nemo very slow to move files

Nemo got very wonky in the last few minutes. Wouldn't open any of the partitions on my PC, so I rebooted. Now all seems to works okay. I'll see if the problem persists.

Thanks again.

Re: Nemo very slow to move files

That's what I thought, too. And given that PCManFM does it instantaneously (as does ACDSee32, an old windows picture manager running under Wine) sort of makes it feel like a Nemo problem. I was selecting the files then dragging and dropping them into the folder. That folder is in the same directory ...

Nemo very slow to move files - More Problems

I was moving some .jpg files around on my HDD and found that Nemo was excruciatingly slow at doing it. It wouldn't hang but it would take a minute or so to move roughly 125 files from one directory to another on the same partition. I did this several times with several different files/directories. A...

Re: update firefox in mint 18

I can confirm: Updated to FF 48 through update manager. I am running LM 18 Cinnamon that I upgraded from LM 17.3. When I open preferences, I can click on the Search tab but the information inside does not change. In other words, if I click on Content I get "Notifications", "Pop-ups&qu...

Re: Getting Rid Of "Other Places" In Save Dialog?

I'm with InkKnife on this one. I know exactly what you mean and why it's annoying. The new "Save As..." dialogue utterly annoying and feels like *gasp* Windows. I, for one, rarely use the "Places" locations as all of my data resides on separate partitions. The lack of this kind o...

Re: Memory Leak - Memory Usage

I seem to have answered my own question. Collector is part of Bootchart. After I purged Bootchart, collector does not run, and memory usage is seemingly holding steady. I'll give it a couple days to make sure then update the subject to "Solved"

Thanks!

Re: Memory Leak - Memory Usage

I may have spoken too soon. Today I booted and logged in, but walked away from the computer. I didn't open anything. When I came back, the screens were turned off (as they should be.) I moved the mouse and when I looked at memory used, it was around 8 GiB. Again, I did nothing with the computer up t...

Re: Memory Usage

Crap, you're right. I got my numbers in the wrong place on used memory. That makes complete sense, except for how it appears in both Conky and System Monitor. Below are three screenshots: one of Conky, and two of System Monitor. I didn't add up all of the processes' memory usage, but I'm sure that t...

Memory Leak - Memory Usage - Bootchart [Solved]

I recently upgraded to LM 18 Cinnamon. I did the update in-place from 17.3. So far, everything has gone smoothly. I have noticed that in both Conky and Top that my memory usage is reported as really high - at the moment, Top reports that 13.1GiB of 16 are in use; only 4.6GiB are available (roughly, ...

I usually use DuckDuckGo to find what I'm looking for here. Try:

Re: YouTube and Monitor Screen Getting Turned Off

There is a Screensaver Inhibitor applet available. I'm pretty sure that that would accomplish what you want.

Man, you people are good!

It is configurable menu. Hopefully it will settle out when Cinnamon is stable and updates are made.

Thank you all for your time and efforts.

Re: Odd Notification

Even more oddly, it seems that the error (or whatever it is) is happening more frequently now: It popped up 4, 8, and 10 minutes ago, according the notification applet on the panel. I've gotten into the habit of clearing them off - I'll let it run and see how many I get.

Thank you both for your replies. The first two commands state that there is no crontab for either user or root. The third gives a "total 0" response. Here is the response for inxi -r Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/alex-wv-pulseaudio-equalizer-ppa-trusty.list deb...

Odd Notification [Solved]

I am getting an odd notification every now and again. Every hour or so I’ll get “repos sourceActor is undefined.” The error does not coincide with when the update manager checks for updates, and if I run "sudo apt-get update" from the terminal I get no errors. I'm running 17.2 Cinnamon. $ ...

Re: Linux Mint without desktop environment?

Wrong approach. Instead use a distro that is already intended for old hardware, like AntiX http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=antix I completely understand your reasoning for wanting to stay with the same base, but you really might want to give AntiX a look, particularly the Symbiosis ve...

Re: Temperature Sensors

Thanks!

PSensor did confirm that I was incorrect in the first place. After a whole lot of DuckDuckGoing, I figured out how to get CPU temps in conky. Added this line:

Code: Select all

${execi 5 sensors | grep ^temp1 | tail -n 1 | awk '{print $2}'}
and all is well.

Thanks again for the reply.
