Re: Mint 18.1 Rearranging cinnamon applets

Now I think I have solved this damn issue. Killed Xtreme Download Manager process, and the panel/applets are working again.

Re: Mint 18.1 Rearranging cinnamon applets

Hi Cosmo, I don't know what happened last night. I was not able to rearrange any applets on the panel. And, I was not able to click on an empty area of the panel to bring up the panel configuration/edit mode toggle regardless of how many times I tried resetting the applets settings to default, switc...

[Solved] Mint 18.1 Rearranging cinnamon applets

I have updated Mint 18 to Mint 18.1 using the update manager. In my case, everything appears to work reasonably well after removing the "window list with app grouping" applet. But with the previous versions of Mint, I am sure I was able to rearrange the applets on the panel using 'panel edit mode'. ...

Re: Linux Mint 18.1 “Serena” Cinnamon released!

I had a small issue with the 'window list with app grouping' applet, which disabled my panel. But, overall everything appears to be working ok.

Thanks for the early update manager update.

[Solved] LiveTV MythTV and VPN

Hi, I am having a small issue with MythTV. If I boot into Mint with my PIA VPN automatically starting up, then I need to restart the MythTV backend to watch liveTV. However, without the VPN automatically starting up, I can watch LiveTV without restarting the MythTV backend. I am using PlayTV capture...

[Solved] How to batch check integrity media files

I am using ffmpeg CLI to check various media files (avi, mp4, mkv, etc) for corruption, which works well as long as I process one file at a time.

I am curious to know if there are any other tools or ffmpeg frontend that can be used for batch checking file integrity? Thanks.

"Min" might be another light browser that is worth trying.

Re: About to uninstall and reinstall

From my experience, I think it is important to create an image of your hard drives before formatting/resintalling Mint. To save your bookmarks, you can use an addon called Xmarks, which is available for Firefox and Chrome. Xmarks will save your bookmarks to a server. Alternatively, you can also find...

Re: Corrupt filesystem?

I think it is time to provide an update. Mint crashed again on Monday. So, I restored the image file and updated the kernel to 4.2.0-18. I also updated grub and xserver-xorg files via Synaptic package manager, which I didn't do last time, because MintUpdate didn't report the update. I have been boot...

Re: Corrupt filesystem?

Thanks for the tips Xenopeek. :) I updated the kernel to 3.19.0-41. Mint appears to be behaving so far. But, at this stage, I don't really trust it enough to store important stuff. So, I am using this opportunity to salvage as much as I can even though I have backup images. I was going to wait patie...

[Solved] Corrupt filesystem?

I had Mint 17.3 installed on an SSD. But, the SSD was giving me trouble whenever I tried to boot. Here is a link to my thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=221841 Since my last post in May, I created an image file of my non-working Mint, and have finally purchased a new SSD. And...

Re: unable to boot (black screen)

It looks like I jinxed myself regarding my SSD. When I rebooted Mint, the first thing I noticed was an error in my update status 'The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.' So, I Googled, and I tried restoring the status file located in \var\lib\dpkg with an earlier backup vers...

Re: unable to boot (black screen)

Yes, I get the default Grub screen with the countdown timer. This is how I boot into Mint in the past. I am happy to be using Mint again; and I am happy that I have not lost my settings, etc. Mint has been booting fine since the last day or so. But, a few minutes ago, Mint would not boot from the Gr...

Re: unable to boot (black screen)

Thanks for your reply fabien85. No, I was not able to boot into Mint at all. I don't know what caused this issue though. Anyway, I somewhat became impatient and decided to try and fix the problem even though I don't know anything about grub. So, I created a backup image of my Mint SSD using Clonezil...
