Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or other non-standard) BREAKAGES!

gcp - do you have any issues at all with the frickelplatz packages? I ask as I have issues playing extremetuxracer and torcs (ie they don't play) when I used the frickelplatz packages, but no issue with those games when using latest xorg. On the other hand without the frickelplatz packages I do get ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 5 august 2011

Hey I'm not doubting Clem's ability to 'tame' Testing (when/if needed).

I'm just pointing out that a new user to LMDE might get a bit 'worried' or get the wrong impression if they see a 48 page thread titled LMDE BREAKAGES.

Anyhow, good luck with the project.

Don't want to appear overtly negative, but 48 pages of " LMDE BREAKAGES" isn't a good advert for LMDE IMO.

Nick_Djinn, I'll suggest antiX. Debian Testing with a MEPIS kernel and adapted MEPIS installer/tools.

You do know that Vector Lite 6.0 was released on 2009-04-02, more than 2 years ago.

Re: My call for a fast booting distro

antiX is another fast booting distro based on Debian Testing and MEPIS. Boots in just under 20 seconds on my box. inxi -SC System: Host antiX1 Kernel 2.6.38-2.dmz.1-liquorix-686 i686 (32 bit) Distro antiX-M11-686-pt2 05 March 2011 CPU: Dual core AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (-MCP-) cache 1024 KB flags (lm...

Re: Hybrid Distro - LMDE & Mepis

Where does Mint get its specific packages from? In the same way Mint LMDE is binary compatible with Debian, so is MEPIS. MEPIS may use some Ubuntu source (not a lot), but it repackages it to 100% Debian compatibility. MEPIS does not use Ubuntu debs.

Re: Showstoppers

Maybe you need to re-title the title of the thread now a solution to your main showstopper has been found. But there again, maybe the lesson is that LMDE should come with libgl1-mesa-dri already installed and it not being installed can be seen as a 'bug' which is easily fixed.

Re: aptitude question

apt-get upgrade is not the same as apt-get dist-upgrade. When you do an apt-get upgrade, apps are never removed, but with apt-get dist-upgrade they might be as new libraries replace the old and apps built on the new libraries will need to be removed and then installed. A 'genuine' 'rolling release' ...

Re: Old system, best Live-CD

OP only has 32MB RAM and wants a livecd so most of the distros suggested by users on this thread will not boot from cd.

DSL will and maybe a very old knoppix and puppy.
