Re: Mint Debian
That translation error is because of the debian-multimedia repo. Comment it out and apt-get update will finish. Why would you not want debian-multimedia? o_O The issue that is causing apt-get update to 'stick' is the multimedia repo. (There is a problem at debian.multimedia well on my box at least)...

Re: Which mint for low RAM computer?
what about anti-X from the Mepis team? I tried once, but could not boot. The laptop do not have a cd-rom, usb-boot, lan or floppy (yes, I know, it's amazing), so I install a system by removing the hard disk, putting it into another computer where I install, then back to the laptop. I think that Ant...

Re: Your Top Distributions
If you go to the MEPIS repos, you can get the source code for the latest MEPIS tools. (The old ones were not released under a free licence, unlike the latest on an Apache licence).
ftp://ftp.mepis.com/mepis/pool/main/m/
Anyhow, Puppy is a great distro.

Why not just download that old MEPIS and burn it to a disk?

Re: Vote for Debian base as opposed to Ubuntu
Just to throw a spanner in the works ;) Mint is often hailed as 'Ubuntu done right'. Now there is no way that slogan would fit for Debian "Mint is Debian done right" is obviously not going to be a selling point. Also there are some very good to excellent Debian noob distros out there, MEPI...

Re: mint and personal views...
I just stumbled across this and would like to express my solidarity and support with clem on this issue. My distro (antiX-M8) was also criticised for its release name (to put it mildly) and in fact the release name was removed from Distrowatch. Well done to sticking to your principles. We and the Pa...

Re: Will Linux ever be ready for the desktop?
Maybe I misunderstood the intention of your post or you have misunderstood mine or a bit of both ;) :P (I think we actually agree with each other) What I meant to say was that many linux distro devs (especially the smaller ones ranging from PCLOS, MEPIS, sidux and others with a much smaller user bas...

Re: Will Linux ever be ready for the desktop?
Why do you want linux to 'go toe to toe with Microsoft'?
For many linux devs it is not their (primary) reason for providing a linux distro.
Maybe Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE/Novell and the 'big' companies want to do so, but the vast majority of distros do not work on this premise. And why should it.

Re: sidux 2009.1
sidux is indeed a fantastic debian Sid (tamed) distro. At the moment it is being severely tested with kde4 and xorg1.6 entering the Sid repos and the folks there seem to be handling it as well as possible. smxi, which is NOT supported by sidux devs (though many users of sidux use it), is also being ...
