Re: Easy way to install new scanner/sane drivers?

You can download the source code and compile it. Not the answer you were looking for, I'm sure. Were you addressing me? You already gave me the PPA link, that's all I need, but as I said it's other users on other distros that would benefit from a modular SANE driver model so anyone could download t...

Re: Easy way to install new scanner/sane drivers?

Cannot find Sane on my PC. sudo apt-get install sane You could also install xsane. Running xsane does a check for scanners. sudo apt-get install xsane xsane Anyway, if your scanner isn't detected by xsane after you install it, or by Simple Scan, you also probably need new SANE/drivers, so check on ...

Re: Easy way to install new scanner/sane drivers?

There's a PPA with a much newer SANE. Look here: https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-git Thanks! I looked for a PPA but didn't find this. It'd be nice if there was a non-PPA option so that you can solve the issue for all Linux distros, downloading and installing SANE drivers dire...

Re: Easy way to install new scanner/sane drivers?

Have you had a look on canons website to see if they have a scangear package available for your model? There was no Linux in the list of OSes for the drivers for the 220, so apparently they don't have it for it? Either way it'd be great to package the open source drivers for easy user installation ...

Easy way to install new scanner/sane drivers?

Due to Linux Mint 17 being based on such an old Ubuntu, the sane scanner driver database is quite old. I searched on the sane website but couldn't find a way to install new drivers without compiling and installing a completely new version of sane. Does anyone know if there is an easier way to instal...

Re: Canon LiDE 220 support coming very soon

good news on the sane-development list; the hard-working developers there hope to have the 220 supported in a month or so; so that will be good for anyone wishing to buy one of these hi-spec scanners The 220 scanner shows as supported on the unstable/development SANE branch here . The problem is, L...

Re: The ultimate dream Cinnamon roadmap for Linux Mint 17

I just want icons to align in a grid on the desktop like they do in the normal Nemo file browser view.

Several of your ideas here are cool, though!

Re: Dumb improvements that have never been done...

Nemo NEEDS an option where it treats the desktop like it does a folder's contents in its file browser. It needs an option for lining up the desktop like a grid. This would be the DEFAULT BEHAVIOR of every distro out there if this were implemented! Right now, as stuff gets added to the desktop, it st...

Improving the password prompt situation for Linux

I hate a lot of things about Ubuntu, hence why I use Linux Mint instead, but the password request when opening Software Manager is a pain. With Ubuntu's Software Store it only asks you for a password once you tell it to install something. That got me wondering... Windows got a lot of flack over the ...

Re: Jerky/choppy window movement after hours of system uptim

I have this same Issue with my laptop. My system is an AMD A-8 6410 With R5 graphics and 4 gigs of ram. After a day of use when dragging windows it becomes very choppy and things slow down. Tried the amd proprietary drivers and the open source driver available in mint and both still have the same i...

Re: Jerky/choppy window movement after hours of system uptim

First of all: the xorg-edgers PPA is dangerous and should only be used with great care. Only install the Nvidia driver you need from it, and *do not install updates from it*. Because it contains more packages than just the Nvidia driver, which put your entire system "on the edge". A safer PPA is th...

Jerky/choppy window movement after hours of system uptime

After leaving two different computers on for a long while, both with Linux Mint 17.1, I will come back to them to find that moving windows around the screen is extremely jerky/choppy/slow. When I check top or System Monitor while doing this, I see that Cinnamon has one CPU core pegged at 100% use, b...

Re: Fullscreen Steam movies playing on left 1/3rd of screen

YESSSSS, i have the same problem......it started happening about 6 weeks ago and is not resolved despite several mint updates to the "steam client flash plugin" . Infact i think it is worse now because, in the past i used to be able to exit this mixed up full screen by just right clicking anywhere ...

Re: Fullscreen Steam movies playing on left 1/3rd of screen

This thread is about full-screen Steam Client Flash movies...my other thread was about Totem. I just mentioned Totem here in case it was related to my 4K monitor and/or high-dpi mode. It is not. I've edited my post to hopefully be a bit more clear. I just verified on a completely different computer ...

Fix Driver Manager to allow latest NVIDIA/AMD/Intel drivers

So there are lots of problems with Linux gamers trying to run games without the latest NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel drivers, and those games failing horribly. Even in Linux Mint 17.1, the driver manager is very "dumb" and only provides older drivers. At least when you add the xorg-edgers PPA it shows more ...

Re: Driver Manager not showing updated driver.

As an example, I'm using NVIDIA 346.35 like you are using, and Driver Manager has nouveau selected, and says "no proprietary drivers in use".

So yes, it is quite broken and dumb. If you aren't using one of the options it gives, it will think you aren't using any proprietary drivers.
