Re: Nemo search tab bug in Mint 18 / Cinnamon 3.0.7

If you think it's a bug and you clearly can demonstrate the required steps for someone to reproduce it then submit a bug report. You may be tempted to submit it at https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint because that's where Mint tells you to submit them at https://www.linuxmint.com/getinvolved.php Bu...

Re: Nemo search tab bug in Mint 18 / Cinnamon 3.0.7

Here, do this, to get more info about this bug: 1. Open Nemo up. Open three or four different tabs and have them all browsing locations other than your home folder. 2. Click the search button to make the search box appear. 3. Click on any other tab and watch how it forces that tab back to the home f...

Re: Nemo search tab bug in Mint 18 / Cinnamon 3.0.7

Bugs are funny things. What one considers a bug a developer sees as conforming to the design spec. On "Method 1" a double middle click on the folder creates a new tab to that folder that when selected displays that folder in the context of the parent folder. Is it a bug or did the developer design ...

Gufw Firewall doesn't fully work

The firewall blocks some things, but not everything. For example, when both incoming and outgoing are in deny or reject modes, HTTP and ping both don't work, but some other ports do work. These functional ports are even shown in the "Report" screen as well as netstat. Sorry I can't give a better exa...

Nemo search tab bug in Mint 18 / Cinnamon 3.0.7

Tabs revert to the user's Home folder when they are selected and switched to from a tab with "search" activated. Steps to reproduce, method 1: 1. Open Nemo and click the "search" button. 2. Type in a search that will give you folders as part of the results. 3. Middle-click one of those folders to op...

Re: Do NOT use BTRFS in Mint 18

The underlying dpgk does a lot of sync calls to ensure the stored system is consistent before moving on. I have noticed that BTRFS takes a weeny bit longer to handle bulk-upgrades of a new system. I am running a Sarah 64-bit Cinnamon with compressed+duplex data on a removable drive...we will see ho...

Re: Do NOT use BTRFS in Mint 18

Do you have a source for this other than your own experience? I've been using Btrfs since kernel 3.13 and scrub without issues. Are you using Btrfs' builtin RAID functionality or are adding Btrfs on top of some other RAID software? Nope, single-mode BTRFS with direct SATA disk access (not on top of...

Do NOT use BTRFS in Mint 18

The default 4.4 kernel in Mint 18 contains a horrible version of BTRFS. Do not use it for any purpose, not for a single partition, nor for RAID partitions. It is badly broken and you will have a high chance of seeing uncorrectable errors after doing a scrub on your filesystem after some time with us...

Re: Screen tearing on Linux Mint 18

Cool I will try more fixes if I find any more tearing, thanks! For me the only tearing seemed to have been in Firefox, and it now seems to have been fixed by setting: gfx.xrender.enabled;true in about:config. I have smooth scrolling turned on and so far I haven't noticed any tearing, so for anyone ...

Re: Screen tearing on Linux Mint 18

Doesn't seem to have completely gotten rid of it, but mostly. Very strange. Either way I hope this behavior gets reverted in the future as no tearing in any app is a killer feature of Mint in my opinion! :D I did have some tearing in Cinnamon in programs other than Firefox with the proprietary Nvid...

GTK/Nemo breadcrumb bug - sometimes doesn't display right-most folder path

Sometimes when the save dialogue pops up when saving things out of Firefox, the bread crumb bar will not expand to show the leading right-most folder as I'm drilling down into subfolders in the main folder/file selection pane. Clicking on the "pan right" arrow of the breadcrumbs will not make it pan...

Yep, changed my Firefox launch icon command to: env MOZ_USE_OMTC=1 firefox %u and tearing is gone. Yes, that was the thread I was thinking about. Glad it helped! Re: Screen tearing on Linux Mint 18

Is it just in Firefox by any chance? I had generalized tearing with my Nvidia using the prop drivers too, but the usual tricks (like in this thread so far) took care of that, except in FF... at first I assumed I was still getting system-wide tearing, but it was FF itself. The solution to that is in...

Re: Linux Mint 18 64-bit Cinnamon - installer hangs on codec checkbox screen until installer is restarted

Hi, this happened to me today. After the screen was stuck like, loading something, I was searching the web for answers while the mint installer was stuck at the checkbox but when I suddenly came back to see if there was something different... yes, there was. I google'd for like 7 minutes and sudden...

XPlayer mouse wheel scrolling scaling could probably use refinement

It's really cool that XPlayer, unlike Totem, has finer-grained mouse scroll wheel forwarding/reversing based on the total length of the video! That way the scroll wheel isn't completely useless with really short videos (scroll forward once, and you're already at the end of the video!). However, it d...

Replace old Steam Beta icon in Mint-X theme with normal Steam icon from Mint-Y theme (or from elsewhere)

If the slightly rounded corners of the Mint-Y theme don't match then you can get proper Steam icons from elsewhere, but Steam is loooooooooong past when it was in beta so it shouldn't have the yellow/black caution tape below the icon anymore.

Re: Linux Mint 18 boots to UEFI shell after installation, BIOS doesn't see any bootloader

I understand you got the issue on real hardware. My comment is that you are using things going south in VB as well as on real hardware as indication that's it a to your two-disk situation specific installer bug, whereas I've seen VB EFI installs do nothing but go south, two disks or one. That is, y...

Re: Linux Mint 18 boots to UEFI shell after installation, BIOS doesn't see any bootloader

Note, an EFI-configured VirtualBox 5.0.24 VM even dumps me at the EFI shell with only one disk and after a fully standard, "erase disk and install", Mint 18 install -- after the first shutdown of the VM, that is. Before I shutdown the VM for the first time I can reboot Mint 18 as many times as I li...

Re: Linux Mint 18 boots to UEFI shell after installation, BIOS doesn't see any bootloader

YAY! I found the bug! It is indeed an issue with the installer doing something wrong when installing to the second hard drive with the manual partitioner. To recreate: 1. Create a Virtualbox machine with EFI mode selected and two hard drives. 2. Boot, run the installer, and select "something else" ...
