Re: How to install Linux Mint?

Eule,

Since I don't know the make/model of the laptop, but it may be that its bios does not allows booting from usb. That may be your problem.

If this is s...

Re: I can't get my Brother MFC-255CW printer to work

aegimius, Greetings in the New Year! I went to the Linux Foundation's Printer compatibility site and found this listing for your computer: http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Brother/Brother-MFC-255_CW Unfortunately it is not positive ... as it is listed there as a "paperweight" or not functional un...

Re: Mint 12 Trackpad

Matthew9170,

It would help to find a fix if you could give us the particulars of your system .....the make, model, and trackpad info (you can find this under Administration > System Profiler and Benchmark in the Input Device section.

Re: Random freeze on booting into desktop

I think these random freezes are not connected to the new Mint12, per se. Linux Torvalds has reported this being related to a kernel thread tool called, kworker https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/3/30/836. If you notice your cursor begin to get jumpy, sloppy or slow, open a terminal and type "top" (without ...

I think I stumbled onto a solution. I had this happen on two separate laptops.
I installed chromium (browser) and removed Firefox... and no more problems

Re: Mint 12 freezes up -- NOT SoLVED

Add another one to the freezing category! Running liveusb on LinuxCertified laptop; dual T4300 (2.1 GHz); 2 Gb ram; Intel G45 chipset, 1280 x 800 screen with LinuxMint 12 32bit. First run-through, like the others, using FF, Banshee in background (accessing music from laptop's hdd); had changed deskt...

Re: Can't fix synaptic's 'fix broken packages'

ozgta, I had this same problem, and upon searching for an answer, fell upon this solution: This can be corrected by deselecting all the choices in mint update, then select any listing of "mint update." Once this is complete, the others should work. I believe that jungle_boys two commands in his resp...

Re: The BIG Skype alternatives thread

enna, Many articles/blogs have reported the breadth of Skype replacements, but also the problems with them...primarily because of the lack of depth in use, most replacements don't have the "universal" notoriety which Skype had acquired. Here are some of the articles which I found interesting: http:/...

Re: Gnome3-mint 11

I've read the span of reviews, and tried to use the opensuse based iso with gnome3, which failed at boot (which opensuse has done to me on several machines!) So i cannot respond to Gnome3 with hands-on experience. But what I have seen/read about I think I like, and that is coming from someone who en...
