Re: application recomendations please - video / audio

The only part of your requests that I feel I can handle is about the "harsh" sound. I do not have this issue with Mint, but had it with another distro over a year ago, and found that it was a mixer setting. I believe you may either have a line input switched to output, or a digital mic setting issue...

Re: Which wireless router should I buy?

I think that almost any router will work anymore, but linksys, dlink, and westal I can vouch for.

Other than checking out the box (and some are noting Linux now) you could check out:

http://www.linux.com/feature/118497

for starters...

Re: Animated backround

I think I read at the compiz site that there has been some work in that area...of course it would be a resource hit...but some of us have systems which could handle that, I suppose. If you want to see it in action, the enlightenment window/desktop manager has been doing that for years, check out a l...

Re: Games for Mint..........

'mintGames' could be launched and would show you all the games you have installed and then give you an option to download games, You have this feature when you use synaptic...just search for "games" and you will see all games available, and the ones installed will have their checkbox filled in...si...

Re: virtualbox error

Well, this is what I tried, and what worked.

I deleted my .Virtualbox folder in my /home folder; then uninstalled virtualbox, re-booted, re-installed with mintinstall with default repositories.

It is now working...

Re: What if I change my motherboard?

As far as I know, SRF, Mint isn't compiled specifically for your hardware, but at each boot is reconfigured. So there should be no problem in switching out your hardware for new. Your first boot after the rebuild may be longer, as the new hardware is detected. BTW, you do have a backup of your data,...

Re: virtualbox error

What I should have said in original post was this...that virtualbox had been running and I had used about four distros in it...it was working one day, and then not the next....and now I cannot get it to run.

Has AWN shown up on your desktop, yet?

For another explanation to add apps to AWN check this thread:

Blake,

I would say, "give it a try!"
You could always uninstall it later, as well if it doesn't work.

Re: Adding Applications to Avant

chowanec, I can do that...just discovered that, but this is what I did originally. Right click on a blank section/corner of the "background" (shelf) behind the AWN icons. You will get a menu of items, choose "dock preferences." Left side bar of the opening window you will see "launchers" - click on ...

Re: request openoffice 3 for 64bit LM5

Thanks for that thread, Omns, however I had seen that before, and since there isn't any mention of 64bit I am not going there. I think that what has been released so far in Mint 6 has just been 32bit anyway...

request openoffice 3 for 64bit LM5

Would like to have this available...
Have used OOo3 on a windows machine and LOVE it!

I tried a suggested 64bit install of OOo3 in my kubuntu 64bit setup , but it trashed the whole system (which gave me an excuse to come to Mint!!)

God Bless
