Re: "desktop" missing in my filesystem

I still haven't found an answer except that since this is a RC version, one may expect things to not always work correctly, since it isn't the final version.

I would try re-installing...

Re: "desktop" missing in my filesystem

I am running regular gnome mint, so I am not sure of a fix. It does seem interesting that it wasn't there from the start.
i will do some searching here to help, though.

ivo.linux, When you right-click on an empty spot on the desktop do you get a pop-up with a "change desktop background" choice at the bottom? Click on this, under new popup, choose Themes tab and click on Custom theme... which is the default for Mint 9. (The top three choices should be Custom, Aurora...

Mak,

Quanta memoria hai? Mint LXDE richiede 256megs.
Se hai meno di quello, si consiglia di provare un'altra distro chiamato Puppy Linux.

igotpins, Welcome to Mint! First, I would say that something has happened to the installation (duh) which has failed either to bad cd burn? (although you say it goes completely through the process to ask for reboot). I saw a hint on an Ubuntu site that says to run chkdsk /f on your harddrive. If tha...

Thanks dawgdoc, I should also say that I was getting inspirational help from the writer of the article that I had read over at TechRepublic, Jack Wallen. He stuck with me offering his ideas and insight, until we solved it. What finally made the light bulb light up over my head was that the libsgs8 p...

SOLVED: Printing failed "couldn't read xref tables"

This is the error I receive when trying to print. This happened after reading this blog and trying the boot speed up hint: http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/46530 Once I rebooted for the second time, and tried to print a file, I noticed that I no longer had any printers installed. Even after installin...

codycooper, Welcome to Mint...and glad you are helping others into the F/OSS world. A couple of questions, first...why Mint 8, or better, why not install the current Mint 9 on your client's laptop? Shockwave, Welcome to Mint! I have read that with Vista it was better to have it prepare a new empty partition, to use later for the Mint installation process if one wanted to avoid corruption problems. (I haven't attempted a dual-boot since late 2005, since then running Linux alone!) I don't know i...
