... dreaded Command Line [worked like a Champ]

Sweet, got it. Now I can study on those commands some more. Root is still whimpering a little. Take THAT!

Thanks again, Wharf Rat,

... the dreaded Command Line, [worked like a Champ]

When I switched from Olivia-mate to Petra-mate, I used the Backup tool to save a bunch of files. When it came to replace those files in their rightful home, it seems that that big bully, root , stole a bunch of them from me. Now, I have been studying about chown and chmod , but don't quite have my h...

Re: I am too stupid to get Broadcom STA driver working on Pe

@Camera I have been following your problem. I had nearly the same problems as you did after I installed Petra-Mate on my old Dell. Only, mine was the b43 driver. I re-installed only once, but I wasted 2 days on it, fighting with the driver. This might be no help, forgive me if I am wrong. But ... di...

Re: Calibre won't launch in linux mint 15

I think one reason the repositories aren't always current is because Calibre changes almost bi-weekly. And you see new features pretty much every other week. It is a very dynamic program. Is that the right term? I think the developer, Kovid Goyal, isn't tired of it yet. And, my own opinion, that *is...

Re: Calibre won't launch in linux mint 15

If you go to Calibre's site, they show the newest version as 1.11.0 I think it is a difference in numbering systems. If you want to install the program, click on their download button. Then go down where you have a choice of OSs. Click on the Linux button. Nice, Big Buttons. Then you will see a long...

[SOLVED] Re: Brasero-PDF, huh? Minor problem

Thanks Cookie Monster, now I feel stupid. I should have seen that. Maybe 'Old timers' is creeping up on me more than I thought.

Thank you again,

[SOLVED] Brasero-PDF, huh? Minor problem

Mint, Olivia, Mate. I have AcroRead installed *now*, but the problem I have is when I click on a PDF, Brasero tries to take it. The burner software doesn't read PDFs for sh*t. The 'Preferred Applications' doesn't seem to have an option to set for PDFs. I'm sure I screwed it up some how, but I am dam...

Re: Clueless in Oregon: CLI greenhorn

Thanks guys. I was able to download the y-ppa-manager after the reboot, as tdockery97 suggested and ran it. That didn't fix the problem, but since it isn't a real problem, I won't worry about it.

thanks

Re: Clueless in Oregon: CLI greenhorn

Thanks for your quick response, bigj231. I tried to apt-get get the Y ppa manager: https://launchpad.net/y-ppa-manager that you suggested. It evidently doesn't like me, because I got this response: larry@oldDell ~ $ sudo apt-get install y-ppa-manager E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (...
