Re: Definetely not important GEDIT question

Thank you, xenopeek . The color schemes you can select in Edit > Preferences > Fonts & Colors are stored in /usr/share/gtksourceview-2.0/styles/. You can copy one of the xml files there to .local/share/gtksourceview-2.0/styles/ in your home folder, rename it, and create your own color scheme fro...

Definetly not important GEDIT question [SOLVED]

I have using gedit recently, (a nice, simple, text editor that you can have in Linux, for the other newbies) for writing html and php recently and like it very much. I see there are 5 color schemes available, and I like that too. My question is: Is there a way to come up with a custom color scheme f...

Re: alternative to dropbox for transferring large files

'Copy' is another one that will give you 15 gigs free, that you can share with your buddy. And it will auto-synch if you want it to. And, of course, they will happily sell you more. :D

And another gentle answer. :D Not laughing at you, Floatingshed, with you. 99% of us have been in your shoes. The other 1% are either liars or natural genius's. (genii?) If you might think your 'old' lappie might be little light in the resources, you might want to look at either MATE or Xfce. My old...

Re: Best Version on Mint for amd Turion 64 CPU ?

I'm running MATE 16 on an old Dell Dimension 3000, with 2 gigs of RAM. It runs well. It only slowed a little when I started running an Apache web server on it too. :D

Re: Top 2 Linux Mint users ' issues a neewbie should know.

I respectfully disagree with jungle_boy about the Broadcom cards. The drivers for some of those are a bear. Especially for a brand new Noob that I was/am. :D Here's a link that I got from another forum. This lined me out. For any Noobie that has Broadcom drivers issues: https://help.ubuntu.com/commu...

Re: Linux Mint 15, Google Earth

Hey slinger, Could you give us what machine you are running? Amount of RAM? Type of video card (or not). The gurus around here are going to ask you about that. Kinda looks to me you have may the same problem I have. Not enough horsepower in the video department. I don't know if you use the chrome br...

Re: Advice please ..want to delete WIN XP

Hey Duffer, I'm no spring chicken either. :D You will get a lot good help from this forum. Is the best one I have seen around. I just converted last May, myself. Once you get past the idea that it is different, you will realize how cool and powerful Linux is. You'll wonder why you didn't switch a lo...

Re: Linux Mint 15, Google Earth

I don't know about your machine, but I tried to run Google-Earth on my old Dell 3000, and it doesn't have the *horsepower* to run it. I am just using the internal video on the M'board, though. If you have a decent video card, I don't see any reason it wouldn't run.

VPN Question for the Network Gurus

Background: I am building a web site for my brother who lives across the country, (US). I am building a WordPress site, on my localhost using the LAMP setup. Thanks to Dngrsone for the directions how to do it. Works beautifully. :D I would like to be able to have my brother have access to my machine...

Re: Newbie needs help setting up VPN

Hi Tribeca, I followed their first line of instructions and it appeared that openvpn installed correctly, but I don't know where to go from here. I'm not sure what "Network Manager" is, or how to import files through it, and I don't know where I'd go to choose truevpn.crt as the certificat...

Re: Boot Loader not working

@alanwatts There may be another way out of your problem. You may be able to use boot-repair . The link is here. http://sourceforge.net/directory/os:linux/freshness:recently-updated/?q=boot-repair You download the ISO, free from SourceForge. Choose 32 or 64 bit, whichever you need. Then burn it to a ...

Cool, well looks like I will be moving over using Mint as my first Linux Distro.
Let me be the first to welcome you to Linux Mint then. You won't regret it. This forum is the reason I stuck around.

Re: Is mint better for me compared to Ubuntu?

@aussie-bloke I am not sure if there is a Google Drive version made for Linux, but to be fair, I can't even get the Windows version to work with Windows Vista (But it works fine on Mac OS X 10.6.8 oddly enough)! Oh yeah, Google Drive works just fine on this Linux Mint 16 MATE on this old P4 Dell I a...

Grub Question

Background: Was dual booting XP and LM16 Mate, on an old P4 machine. Added LM16 Xfce. When I installed Xfce, I shrunk the sda (80 gigs) to about half and installed the Xfce on sda6. Mate has sdb all to itself. All three boot from the sda, from the MBR. Well, the two Linnii do. :) Evidently I took to...
