Re: Mint 18.2 upgrade went super well

Hi Overall upgrade to MInt 18.2 went seamlessly. I then upgraded kernel to 4.10 & experienced screen tearing & bizarre effects such as tabbed browser windows constantly cycling around & google calender refusing to stay on date i.e. jumping between months/years. Tried a few poss fixes, but when I rem...

Re: update-grub to remove Windows Info

Thanks very much. Will think about it very carefully, & exercise extreme caution! May just decide to leave it well alone, as it sounds well above my newbie pay grade!

Re: update-grub to remove Windows Info

Sorry. Had used update-grub and just reported it wrong (too many xmas glasses of wine celebrating the fact that the initial deletion of windows worked), but as you say, windows EFI boot loader still exists on the EFI partition, and I don't want to mess with it for fear of destroying the whole machin...

update-grub to remove Windows Info

Have just finally removed Win10 from my Mint 18 system, by deleting all of the windows related partitions and re-sized the Linux partition etc. As a final step I ran grub-update thinking that it would remove the windows info & I'd no longer see the start menu. However grub-update displays: Generatin...

Re: After Linux Mint 18 install I can no longer boot from DVD/USB

Thanks very much - I'm sure this will do it. Would rather not do any serious messing with bios as it's above my pay grade!

Re: Very Slow reboot (looks dead)!

Sorry for non-response. I didn't check as I was just posting a warning. As stated, it eventually came up & now boots v quickly as I have a SSD.

After Linux Mint 18 install I can no longer boot from DVD/USB [SOLVED]

Sorry, novice if not quite newbie question! Have HP ProBook which came with Win10. After disabling secure boot etc, I have Mint 18 installed & although it initially took all night to start the first time, it's now running like a breeze! As I now want to delete the Win10 partition I need to boot from...

Re: Deleting Windows 10 from dual boot system.

Well this is maybe naive solution, but without messing with GRUB. You can always delete everything from Windows partition and auto-mount. You probably wont be able to delete few files, system files, but we talking about kilobytes. Your MBR will still give you a choice but choosing Win will result i...

Deleting Windows 10 from dual boot system.

Just installed Mint18 on an HP Probook 11-G2 (after some problems. Windows is still consuming approx 35GB of space, and as I never use it I'd like to delete it safely. The system is as follows: System: Host: bob-HP-ProBook-11-G2 Kernel: 4.4.0-21-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.3.1) Desktop: Cinnamon 3...

Very Slow reboot (looks dead)! [RESOLVED}

Just installed Mint18 alongside Win10 ( as a first stage before removing windows). Went through all the stages such as disabling secure boot, and the system booted from the live DVD OK. Install went OK, and told me to restart. Sat looking at the HP prompt for 5 mins, 10... and decided that I'd brick...

Re: Nightingale Installation

Then time to try the other PPA I think. See here the same error: https://github.com/nightingale-media-player/nightingale-hacking/issues/184. Seems to indicate the fix is in nightingale-nightly PPA. I hope that fixes it, though I'm not happy with you getting an error for Unity while you aren't using...

I'm new to Mint, and have just installed Nightingale, but it won't run (although no error messages). Tried Songbird, it loaded but failed duer to missing acc codecs. Tried loading a bunch of codecs but still get same error messages. Any advice re getting Nightingale to launch?
