Re: Im exploring the KDE environment.

X2 I went to openSuse KDE when Gnome 2 replaced Gnome 1, stayed there for a couple of years until Mint released a KDE version. I am happy, and there is no learning curve to KDE upgrades, just more features.

Re: Chromium should be the default browser

Firefox is fitting to Linux as a true open source browser.

Anything Google does is just quasi open source.

Re: New people need to stop using 18.X and use 17.3.

I have 18.1 installed along side 17.3, just a matter of taking the time to move some info from old home to new, and give it a shot.

Re: New people need to stop using 18.X and use 17.3.

I tried 18.0 and I went back to 17.3 as I use my PC for business purpose, but even some of us vets should stick with a stable release.

I tried it out, and then deleted it, too much trouble to change how I run my PC.

Re: creating boot usb

Mine wont boot when I use the USB ports on the front of the PC that are remote to the mobo, but when I use the ports in the back it boots fine.

Maybe you should try making the live USB with Unetbootin or Rufus?

Re: I never see anyone talking about building Mint desktops!

I recently built a Mint desktop. I am done buying laptops that turn into a hunk of wasted money in 4 years with no hardware upgrades available, if I want to be portable, I have an Android phone and tablet. System: Host: bob-desktop Kernel: 3.19.0-32-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 4.8.2) Desktop: KDE Pl...

Re: Windows after Mint or Virtual Machine

Why not install XP or Win7 32 Bit, it will need less resources from the host.

Giving 4 cores and 1/2 the ram to a guest seems like a lot, but once you close the VM Linux will recover all of those resources, so you should be okay.

Uninstall all the Vbox repo software, and download the extension pack and the correct platform package here. https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads Install the platform package 1st, followed by the extension. When you have it all installed, add yourself as a vbox user in the users and groups sett...

KDE Media Keys Vol- Vol+ and Mute Not working <solved>

I was having this problem with my Logitech LX710 and it had worked fine for years. Go to: System settings> shortcuts and gestures> global keyboard short cuts> KDE component Kmix > File> set all shortcuts to none> Assign you media keys to volume up, volume down, and mute. Select reassign for each, hi...
