Sounds like the drive is mounted? Does the drive icon appear on the mint desktop? If it does, try right mouse buttom, unmount volume. Then start the installer.

Re: Where did the programs go?

mipcar, If memory serves, Valgrind and Basislisk II are CLI programs. CLI programs don't show in the menu by default. I am not sure about File Zilla, but I think it is GUI. Have you tried rebooting. This will usually cause the menu to update. Fred File Zilla has appeared and is working. No sign of ...

Re: Shutdown problem - blank screen, fan speeds up

I get the same problem with my Dell, never caused me any problem to just push the power button. I usually dont worry about trivial things like this, this system is practically shut down any ways. Actually, I dont have a black screen just the shut down status with the indicator all the way to the rig...

Re: Online Upgrade?

Yes, just install over the existing installation. It will save your home folder and settings. Select but do not format the partition, and set it as " / " from manual partitioning, and be sure to import documents and settings during the install questions. You will have to reinstall all of you program...

Re: Virtual Box Questions

Here is a good tip. Annoyance, Virtual Box unmounts and takes control of my external USB drive. Solution, create a new virtual hard disk for backups on the external drive, and dont enable the usb drive in settings, you will still have full access to the drive from your Mint desktop. You can also add...

Re: no desktop effects with Mint 6

I was able to run effects until I did a reinstall, then I had the same problem. If the gnome desktop provides effects, it will not allow compiz to work. Here is the answer for checking your problems. http://forlong.blogage.de/entries/pages/Compiz-Check or in a termial: wget http://blogage.de/files/9...

Re: Mint-Space and MintUpload?

So these would just be personal files that one would use for work or share with their friends. It is not just meant for sharing with the mint community? The free version is limited to 10MB and you can share it with anyone for 2days. The paid version is limited to 1GB and you can share it with anyon...

Re: VirtualBox Error

I find when I screw up my system, I just pop in the CD and do a reinstall. Just do not format the partition, set partition to root and use the same name and password, and import documents and settings for linux mint when it asks. Your system will be like new, all your data will be in the home folder...

Re: A couple of networking questions

I have tried virtual box, I never get too far, then I get an error. Would I be able to install windoze printer drivers to virtual box? That is the only reason I need to use windoze with MYOB accounting, it will not print through linux. bug 6316 in the wine bugzilla DB.
