Re: how do I install easytag

Install it via synaptic - it is there as I recently installed it in my M16 MATE development build.

Re: Copying large/many files hangs the system

If you're so inclined, you might want to consider installing a decent 2 pane file manager. XFE is cross desktop compatible. Krusader is kde. I've been using Krusader for years with little or no problems. I routinely move +4G files around in Mint LTS MATE (Krusader) with no problems. I suspect you wo...

Re: Mint 16 printer installation headaches

I suggest following the instructions in the link below (the post is in Mint's Tutorials). Brothers is notorious for poor install instructions. Using the below, I was recently successful at installing a DCP-7040.

Re: Debian vs Ubuntu base philosophy

Dataman says: I could not tolerate the php running at Debian testing. Not sure what you mean by this. PHP + HTTPD is not a big overhead if it must be running. Perhaps you could elaborate? It's the version of PHP that is currently supported in LMDE. As I recall, it's an alpha release. It was too inc...

Re: You Tube and Chromium

You can launch synaptic and do a search on

Code: Select all

chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra
Right click and install from there.

You will still need to enter your login password to access synaptic.

Re: Debian vs Ubuntu base philosophy

I recently explored transitioning my production Lx ops from Mint LTS to LMDE. I built up LMDE completely and started some serious evaluations. The show stopper for me (probably does not apply to a lot of LMDE users) is that LMDE is based on Debian Testing. I do work-work development on my local Lx b...

Re: Hard Drive Data Recovery Problem

My recommendation is to first either boot to a LiveCD and run Gparted if you have installed it in your Lx ops. This will help you identify the actual partitions and designations on your hard drive. If you Lx partition is intact: 1. Boot back to your Lx ops 2. Make a directory (folder in Windows parl...

There's also a panel app in MATE. Sorry I can't give specifics as I'm on my corporate Windoz right now  .

Re: digital camera pic's, what program

For downloading, my recommendation is to use a usb card reader. Once the card is mounted, user your filemanager (as was suggested above) to download the files to the appropriate directory. I find it essential (at least for me) to use a decent 2 pane file manager for this type of work. I use Krusader...

Re: LM 13 LTS Clean Install Checklist

This is my standard build sequence ( do it about 2-4x per year). 0-1 Boot the media (CD / DVD) 0 Turn off the screensaver, activate your wireless connection (if you're using one) 1. Basic install from media 2. Partition level backup. 3. The massive update 4. Partition level backup. 5. Build in all o...

Re: Power Options

I'm not running Debian but I'm reasonably confident that there is a Power Management utility that should control your options. If you have the equivalent of a control panel, you should find it there. Otherwise suggest looking in the Systems Tools or Administration.

Hope this helps.

Re: insecure

A couple of meandering thoughts: 1. Check your browser history. Might provide some indication of things going on within FF. 2. If you are setup for remote access, you may want to either lock down or change access parameters. 3. Any changes made to ip tables (as in are things too loosey-goosey). Just...

Just set your permissions to RWX for all users. If you're using the resident file manager, just right click on the folder.

I have been using something similar to this for years on my Canons (G10 & EOS60). Eliminates all of the problems associated with reading camera contents via apps.

Here's my recommendations to your original posting: 1. Install your new hard drive (duh). 2. Restart and either use the LiveCd or a boot version of RescueCD 3. Launch GParted 4. Set up your storage partition(s) using GParted. Note the partitions and any pertinent labels your established (ie sdb2 - M...

You may need mtp_tools installed from synaptic. I know I'm using it for my Sansa and Mint LTS. I can't supply more specifics at this time as I'm on that "other" ops and at work.

You might try the following for a jump off location of possible movie editors that play nicely in Lx.
