mintUpdate takes forever to find list of updates

When checking for updates, mintUpdate takes at least five times as long to fetch the lists of updates as either Synaptic or apt/aptitude in a terminal. Does that happen for anyone else? Might it be a bug?

Re: [Resolved]-Can I switch to kernel 2.6.30?

Would I have to use the .deb file from /~kernel-ppa/mainline/ or is there a repository somewhere that one could use?

And will these behave the same on KDE CE?

Fresh install, enabled backports repo, did a "sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude dist-upgrade". No luck. :( Worked now. This time, I additionally imported the key and removed korgani...

Re: How to install an Open Type font?

Thanks for trying, but that didn't work. The font still doesn't show up in OpenOffice's font list.

Speedstep is working fine, yes. But adjusting the CPU frequency is not really what I need; adjusting the voltage is.

Undervolting Pentium M

I'm running Gloria with Kernel 2.6.30 and I'd like to increase battery life of my laptop as well as reduce fan noise. On Windows, I used to use NHC to undervolt the CPU, which was as painless as it was effective. Since I'm not yet too familiar with Linux, I'd appreciate a hint or two towards a strai...

gnome-power-manager misbehaves on Samsung X20

Hey guys, I added the brightness control button to a panel on my Samsung X20, but it wouldn't work. Trying to make sure it wasn't a hardware problem, I tried the keyboard shortcut -- which did work, but shortly afterwards the machine became unresponsive for 10 seconds or so and after that reported t...
